I weaned myself off of caffeine several years ago and am SO glad I did it. I feel so much healthier and "even keel" now that I don't have the caffeine in me. I used to feel I had to have it to get started in the morning - but that is the whole point of addiction You feel you have to have it. Once you break that addiction you realize how much better things are without the monkey. Does anyone on here want to wean down to less caffeine in their life? Let us know how much you post and we'll help out! The key is to not go cold turkey. That can really cause problems for you. Wean yourself off slowly and find alternates. For example, go from caffeinated coffee to decaffeinated coffee for a week ...

A year ago I stopped drinking fully caffeinated coffee. Now I only drink decaf, which tastes the same. I can't handle the adrenaline caffeine induces in my system. I am MUCH more in control of my emotions without regular coffee in my system. The other day I made myself some black tea with caffeine and I got all revved up. it was a wild feeling - it had been a long time. lol

I agree completely Jilly! If I drink coffee for some reason now I can feel the shock to my system

I weaned myself off caffeinated sodas & tea. I now only drink caffeinated tea at restaurants. It doesn't seem to bother me in such limited quantities.
I used to get horrible headaches without caffeine, so I did it slowly, and it didn't take very long.

I have to add that I drank caffeine all day, every day until about a year ago when I found it was keeping me up at night, so I cut it out after 5 pm.
About three months ago, I started weaning off the rest--just stopping earlier & earlier in the day--the early morning coke zero was the last to go & it's gone now.

Deb, Dan is like that too. He can't have any caffeine after around 3pm or it ruins his daily cycle.
And let me add congrats to you for weaning yourself off coffee and soda!

Today is the first day I've tried going without caffine. I didn't have my morning coffee...substituted water..and at lunch I goofed and had a diet soda that had caffine. Oh well...tomorrow will be better. So far I haven't had any ill effects, but I do feel less jittery.

I've "weaned" myself off a couple of times, but always went back. I really should just quick caffeine completely because by day 2 I'm nauseous, dizzy, with a monstrous headache and in a really bad mood. By day 7, I've usually recovered a bit. I've wanted to go off again but the side effects are horrible!!!
I'm better though, I use to drink a 2 liter bottle plus of caffeine (soda and tea, no coffee) a day, now I have to drink anywhere from 4-8 ounces.
If anyone knows how to get weaned off without the side effects, PLEASE PLEASE share....
