So while I'm still not of the mind frame to link obesity and religion...
Those are good suggestions at the end of the article though there are some times that it may take more than joining a gym. If I'm not mistaken hypothyriodism can also cause weight gain to a degree, just as hyperthyroidism can cause weight loss...so I would also suggest starting off with a doctor to see if there is a medical condition. If people are eating for psychological reasons - it also may take a bit more.
I do think for those that are religious, they can seek counseling in a church to see if there are more deep rooted issues... But I'm sure if the church approached them that they're obese and tying in obesity and gluttony - I think that would also cause an offense...true or not.
