Because if it didn't, maybe it was the way you were taught how to do it!

I just wrote a new article on the ways it can be done; and the pros and cons of each.

Different Methods of Zone Cleaning

I read your article. Zone cleaning is OK but not on a daily schedule. I like to pick up daily and then tackle a problem or area periodically. I try to make sure the tables are clean and definitely the kitchen but I may only tackle my den once a week or the junk drawer quarterly or under the sink every six months or the closets seasonally.

Your article reminded me of the old song about
Monday is Wash Day
Tuesday is Ironing Day
Wednesday is Sewing Day
Thursday is Market Day
Friday is Cleaning Day
Saturday is Baking Day
Sunday is Day of Rest

I guess zone cleaning is not a new concept.

That is a great article! I like how it breaks out the pros and cons.

I definitely would not survive for a week on each area. I think the one day for each area might work well. Definitely I think doing something (anything) is better than doing nothing smile

What seems to work for me is saying that even for 10 minutes I will work on cleaning just one area, and plowing into it. So I go for short term bursts. But the house is a mess so maybe I need a new system smile

Hmmm... I didn't relay the concept that breaking it up by days means NOT doing top-to-bottom in a single day and doing that every week. Might need tweaking.

But some people function best on the day thing. Yes--very much like the old nursery rhyme.

And like I said in the article, it's not for everyone... wink

Oh yes definitely I like that you have different ideas for different people - something will work for each of us! And I do think if I wrote down "Wednesday = kitchen" on my calendar that I might actually pay attention to it and do some work in there, which would be good for me! So I do think I will give it a try.

I marval at the work cleaning people do - they stick with the job and get it done. I guess I have too many interests that get in the way. I can hear my mother now saying, finish the job before you play. <:-)

Cleaning people only stick with it because they are getting paid to do it smile If someone offered you hard cash for every 15 minutes of cleaning you did, I bet it would seem much more appealing!

I don't know. I actually used to enjoy cleaning OTHER people's houses but not my own--even as a child. I think part of it came from not being able to SEE it get destroyed the second I was done! wink

I have a friend who loves to clean - she gets down on her hands and knees, uses brushes and old toothbrushes for those hard to get to places. Cleaning is a passion.

I must say that I find cleaning strangely relaxing...and I actually enjoy doing it.... unfortunately I tend to use cleaning as a way to NOT do other things...all back to that procrastination topic whistle
