Are you talking about anise cookies? The ones made in a press?

There is a recipe for Italian Love Knots on this Dessert Site; it was submitted by a previous editor and I haven't tried it, but it could easily be made with anise flavoring. These cookies sound delicious.

Hi Rosie09!
Here's a great recipe for those. Recipe makes 48.
Oven 350 degrees. Bake 15 to 20 minutes.
Italian Anise cookies

1 cup butter
1 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
8 eggs, beaten
2 teaspoons anise extract
2 teaspoons lemon extract
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
8 cups flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
***Frosting:***
4 cups confectioners' sugar
4 tablespoons milk, more as needed
2 teaspoons any of extracts
Nonpareils

Directions:

Melt shortening and butter and cool. Mix eggs, sugar, anise, lemon and vanilla. Blend in melted shortening. Add flour, baking powder and baking soda.

Mix well until it forms a soft dough. Dough will be easier to work with when cool. Place spoonful on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Mix confectioners' sugar, milk and extract to form desired consistency and drizzle on warm cookies. Sprinkle with nonpareils while still warm.

Does anyone know the name of the Italian cookies that are little balls that you stack on top of each other and then drizzle honey over and add sprinkles?

Yes, strufoli. My father loved them and when they became hard, he was in heaven - he had jawbreakers!
