I just thought it would be interesting to see if you taught your children about recycling, and how you did it?

I know my kids have learned a lot about recycling in school, but in my area recycling is not required, and the garbage company actually charges you to pick up recycling, so not many people actually recycle. we actually live in an area where you can still burn your own garbage.

I think it sounds like a good idea... If they learn it as young children it will become a habit they carry into adulthood.. and it would be a positive habit ..

My ten year old grandson is very alert to recycling and keeps us on our toes about the issue. He is really into protecting and preserving nature and our environment. I myself recycle a lot. I reuse a lot of material that would otherwise take up space in the landfills. Tin cans, carefully checked for sharp edges, make great pencil holders when wrapped in leftover contact paper.

I try to re-use items like milk cartons, pop bottles and egg cartons. I use the milk cartons and pop bottles for cold frames for perennials, the milk cartons also get used for goat milk. The egg cartons get used for eggs and the metal is given to people who sale yet, so yes, I guess I do.

those are great ideas ladies, thank you. What about old toys and bikes? Does anyone recycle those? I heard about a man who makes wheelchairs with old bicycle tires. He donates the wheelchairs to people who can't afford to buy one.

In our city, recycling is optional. We don't pay for curbside service, but we do drop off recyclables at collection centers each week. My daughters take turns tossing items into the appropriate bins. They like to help me, as long as it isn't too cold!

Later when we're at home, my 3.5 year gets excited when she sees an empty can or bottle, knowing that "we can recycle it!" laugh
