It's kind of funny - speaking in public makes me nervous, but singing or acting in public does not.
Maybe it is the difference between speaking my own words and those that are written by another person.

I definitely panic if I'm speaking in public and I don't like being in crowds in general. I imagine it's gotten worse since I've been working from home these past 6 years, because I am so happy in this quiet

I LOVE speaking in public. I love acting, singing, speaking and dancing. I am an uber ham. That said I am with Lisa on the crowds thing. At least being in a milling crowd, like in a mall, or at a concert or festival - I get the total creeps. I feel like I am breathing other people's air and it really gets me upset. I don't like touching public things either.

I don't mind touching public things, but if it's a networking function or something where I'm supposed to be talking with people I get really nervous. Even with the BellaOnline gatherings where I "know" everyone I'm still nervous that I'll say something wrong or do something wrong and upset someone.

Well you do a great job when you do those talks, Lisa! You really do.
I hate conferences where i have to shake people's hands. I always catch people's colds. How do i get out of hand shaking in a nice way?

Jilly, tell them you think you're catching a cold. Or carry those antiseptic wipes/gels. But, you hug everybody! LOL
I don't like crowds, either. Can't even do concerts anymore because people annoy me and I end up getting [censored] at the way they behave. In general, but especially if they are drinking.
But, although I'm nervous about speaking in public--like with a microphone in front of an audience, I'm not panicky and usually get over it in the first few minutes. I almost always think of it as teaching instead of speaking. Don't know why, but it works for me.

Yeah I don't worry about the hugging. It's more sanitary than hand shaking, IMO. Well, as long as no one coughs on me. Yes, telling people i have a cold might be the best way. I do think handshaking with strangers is a nasty habit that is long overdue to be abandoned. I don't mind the fist bump though. that's clean.

I love speaking in public. However, I DO still get nervous every time I go to speak. Whether it's in front of a crowd or doing workshops for 30 and under, I still have the nerves. Someone once said you cannot have courage without fear, and you cannot conquer the fear without courage.
So I conquer mine every time I speak
