Was Ledger gay?

No, he was not.

I love how people make the assumption that because he was in Brokeback Mountain he must be gay when in reality neither of the male stars who played the gay cowboys was gay.

They were ACTING !

As far as I know this is the ONLY movie in which Heath Ledger played a gay person. In fact he was very convincing in Casanova.

NOT TO MENTION he had a girlfriend AND a daughter.
