-crying- thanks for your help...I just hope that he is not suffering because it is just breaking my heart to see him like this...and know that it is probably my fault...

If he does die, I don't know if I am going to try again....I feel pretty responsible for all of this....

It's always sad when a fish dies Especially when you don't know what went wrong.

To me, it sounds like you had a water issue. You said you started to notice this behavior right after a water change? Did you age the water before you put him in? In general, it is a good idea to let water sit for about a day before using it for a water change for two reasons. First, it lets the water get to room temperature so that the temperature change isn't so shocking to the betta. Second, it helps some of the harmful gasses that are in tap water to "air" off. If there might have been chlorine in the water, it can quickly cause a fish to get very sick. When you run the water to set aside, it should be cold water too, as it has less "stuff" in it.

You shouldn't give up! There are lots of bettas out there looking for a good home like yours! I will bet you get another soon, once you've had a betta, you can't give them up

This forum is a great place to get lots of answers, so if you decide to give it another shot, you have all the information you need at your fingertips

It was just really sad to sit here and watch him die when there was nothing I could do for him. There were a few times he came over to the glass and looked at me and I just broke down.

I know that I am going to want to try again, but right now I am just too afraid. I had never had a problem before with water or anything and I always aged it and made sure it was oxygenated real good before I put him back in the water, so I am afraid there must have been some ongoing problem that I just did not notice until now. He didn't have any symptoms until today so I just don't know -sniffles-

Hunnie, I'm so sorry. I hope you're doing alright. I know how you feel, my first betta had something like that happen It was horrible. I felt awful. I didn't get another fish until very recently. I had my first fish, Rainbow back in June. I felt soo guilty, but I think you should know you did everything you could, and he was very happy with you. I'm soo sorry Isaacsheart.

Isaac, I'm sorry I missed your posts about Azreal...it sounds like something went drastically wrong with the water change...It happened to me once with my favorite betta ever. I had grabbed the wrong bottle and put EasyBalance in his water instead of the Aquasafe....at the aquasafe dose, which was mega way too much easybalance. Poor fella lingured for about 2 or 3 months afterward, but it really weakened him and he was never quite the same afterward.

Do you add anything to your change water ? Did you do anything different ? Is there anything you can think of that could have gone wrong with the clean water change? It helps to go over it all and try to find out the cause so you can avoid it and learn from it in the future.

I'm sorry about Azreal...

I did everything just the same that I had done before. I just have a feeling that thre was something that was wrong that I just could not see and perhaps the stress of the water change pushed him over the edge.

I know that I am going to want to get another betta eventually, but I am going to wait until I have a better tank, better food, better everything before I try again. I just felt awful sitting here and not being able to do anything to help him and just watching him die like that.

Broke my heart..

But thank you to all of you...

Isaaz- I know how hard it is to watch your first Betta die. My boyfriend gave me my very first batta (names Squishy) as an early christmas present. I bought him a glass tank, added a heater, spoiled him rotten. However, he developed fin rot despite my efforts. It broke my heart to watch him suffer. I eventually flushed him even though he was alive because he had NO fins left and could not move. He just stayed at the top of the tank. As terrible as I felt to do that (who am I to end a life?) I knew it must be done. Bettas are very loveable pets and easy to fall in love with. Just remember that he is not in any pain and is in a better place.

Definitly try again! My boyfriend got me another fish the same day, and Rusty is doing okay. Don't give up!

I am still concerned with Rusty. He just isn't acting like himself at certain points. I don't know what is wrong with him I am going to do a water change today, maybe that will lift his spirits. I did not feed him last night or this morning. When I do feed him he is slow in getting to the food sometimes, at other times he attacks it. One time I put the food in there and he grabbed a piece of the food and was swimming around with it 1/2 in his mouth for a minute or so. Silly fish! I hope he is okay. I am going to skip all of todays feedings and feed him a little bit of frozen cooked peas tomorrow night. I haven't fed him since yesterday morning. He is mainly laying around, being lazy. He doesn't blow kisses anymore either I will keep you updated.

Isaacsheart,
I'm so sorry about Azreal. It hurts to lose a finny friend like that. We're here to help if we can.

One time I put too much stress coat in the water and my fish died. I realized what the problem was later. Just know for Azreal, you did everything you could.
Hugs,
Nan
