What do you like best about your birds? (looks, song, colours, talking, or...?)
What do you dislike? (noise, messy, or...?)

Well I get a real kick out of my amazon Maggie when she goes into her opera singing, which is hilarious because it sounds soo bad. She got that from my 7yr old who fancies herself as an opera singer. lol
The dislike is when she gets in the frame of mine that all my stuff belongs to her and she wants to fight me for it, or go sneaking after it like my rings or necklaces. Even with all that though we end up laughing.

We've got about a billion parakeets... I really dislike those little buggers, their so noisey! But my mother has this great bird. It's a real parakeet (the big green ones with the grey heads) not the kind they normally sale (budgies). This bird is hilarious, he learned how to say "here kitty kitty" and then when the cats come close, he barks real loud like a dgo! His newest trick, I think my stepfather taught him this, is to start yelling "help me help me" when the cats come (when he calls them of course) The cats aren't interested in eating him.. .their just coming to a familiar call lol.

What I like about my cockatiel pair could take pages to write. They are physically beautiful; the male is a pied, the female a white faced lutino. They are fully feathered right now, though both are prone to breaking their tail feathers and becoming little "stubby butts". But their beauty is just the frosting on the cake. They are both sweet, loving (when THEY want to be), funny and very entertaining. The male talks a little but prefers to whistle. He learned the tunes to Old McDonald, which he uses to court his little woman, and Jingle Bells, and whistles them often, sometimes even combining the two. In order to help them re-grow their tail feathers, they are both fully flighted rigt now, and I'm very seriously considering leaving them flighted. (I live alone so there is not the possibility of someone opening a door unexpectedly.) Being flighted has really helped with their self confidence, which I love for them, and the exercise is really good for them too. I like cooking for them, watching them revel in their shower, and making new toys for them, knowing they will only be chewed up and destroyed. I love the quiet times when we just cuddle and chat with each other and the way they can calm me if I'm really stressed.

I can't say that there is anything I truly don't like about them. Sure, there are times that I don't appreciate their mess, and times that I would really like for them to be quiet for awhile, but that all goes with having birds.

Each of my birds has something special about them that I really treasure. I love the way the little lovebirds go through their days happy and playful and chirpy, their cheerfulness is contagious. I love how my cockatiels relate to each other and help each other and watching their interactions, and how the younger one (Spiky) gets so excited when he sees me, and how spending time with me is the high point of his day. I love how my sweet Meyer's parrot calls me - "Ai-wee!" when he wants me, and how he'll do anything to make me laugh, then will cuddle with me forever if I let him. I love the regal bearing of my WC pionus, how no matter what, she's in charge, and the royalty of the bird room, and how she deigns to spend time with me, and how she mutters constantly in my ear while she "helps" me play computer games. I love how my BW pionus pair are so protective of each other, and how they love every single I toy I make for them, and every single food I feed them. I love how my CAG talks up a storm, all day long, saying the funniest things, and how he can tell me what he wants and ask/answer questions - communication in human speech with an animal is a daily miracle - and how he trusts me so much and demands his daily cuddles and scritches. I love how my greencheek conure forces me to maintain my distance, but will still give me "kishes", and how he lets us know when anything is amiss in the bird room, and how his little voice sounds when he talks, and the cute little words he says, and how he'll do anything for popcorn, and how incredibly cute he is.

I like their energy, their enthusiasm, their friendliness to me, their talking. Don't like the mess, and sometimes the noise, but it's worth it. jeanrider.
