Gosh! Unless my child (or myself) were the model of this pattern, (or a gadzillionaire) I would NEVER pay this price. If you look at the patterns, any intermediate crocheter could make these up in no time without a pattern.
Do you think perhaps a shill duped the buyer into a bidding war to up the price?
I noticed the buyer has purchased a TON of patterns on Ebay. Interesting.

No way would I pay that. I would want all the patterns already done!
Bagpipes, I believe that does happen on ebay. I was bidding on two lace ponchos from England and the price kept going up, up, away until I finally came to my senses. I would make one, geesh. I left the other bidders take them. About an hour after the bidding was over I got an email, for each one, telling me that the person that won did not want them and would I like to buy them for my highest bid. I said, no thanks............
The next day both ponchos were up for bid again and the lowest bid. So I bid and got them! So then the seller charged me an arm and a leg for shipping but still did not get the money from the day before..............

hi grammygram, that has happened to me before too. i had saw a harley davidson afghan pattern on e-bay and since my hubby is a hog nut, thought i would get it and make it for him for his birthday, well bidding was over 20.00 and i said forget it, the next day i also got a e-mail from the seller saying i could get the pattern for that if i wanted, told her no thanks, a week later it was on for 2.50, bought it then. LOL so i know what you are talking about. some of these sellers are terrible. when i sell on e-bay i am always honest about the patterns and they are always books or magazines(old ones) have a great day. merwyn :music:

Ebay is utter insanity...high way rape! A while back I was looking for Caron Dazzleaire, and was utterly floored with how over priced the stuff was! I figure it's a good thing I don't even mess with E bay! If I can't get it at the store, a yard sale, the red shield, or given to me, then I don't even bother fooling with it, and really don't need or want it THAT badly! - then again, that's just me.. Nita

Well, I must say I've gotten some really GREAT stuff on Ebay, many sellers are very honest. And as a collector of many things, Ebay has been the only place I can find some things.
If you study how to buy on ebay, and have a little bit of knowledge how sellers work, you can usually spot a scam, or other dishonest sellers.
My favorite yarn seller ever is an ebay seller. I get such Fabulous yarn in spools at rock-bottom prices. Yarn like chenelle, 100 % wool, loopy yarn and eyelash up to 5 pound spools for as little as $5. FAST shipment and very honest seller. She combines shipping and handling for more than one purchase too.
So it helps to search out what you want, know your market, learn strategies, and be a little brave with your faith in humanity when you buy from a new seller.

i agree with bagpipes, i have also got a ton of stuff on e-bay that i never would have found here, and i love the ease of it, only have to send a Money order and they send me the goods. don't have to mess with the stores or anything(well i do tend to haunt craft stores!!! ) but i do buy a lot off of e-bay. i didn't think i would like it but i love it. and have never been burned, just have to watch who you buy from and also see how the feedback is. have a great night. merwyn :rolling:

I am an occasional ebay shopper also and it does depend on WHAT it is for example I have paid a high price for some of my antique books but I look at it as an investment. I personally would not pay that for a new book, but if it was an old one that I would add to my collection, yes I would. I think I paid $20.00 for the Crochet Workbook by James Walters but believe me it was worth every penny. If you ever see that book, grab it, it does have just about everything and more that you need to know about crochet.

Thanks for sharing, bagpipes.
I have bought things, patterns mostly, on ebay and have been pleased. My only bad experience was with the lace ponchos from England. Then I was charged double for the s/h and when I inquired about shipping together, I was told no they had to come seperately and sign of each one. Well, you guessed it, they came together. Oh well, I'm still learning and one bad apple isn't going to spoil the whole basket, for me anyway.

I won't go above $5 dollars for the shawl pattern but I would love to be able to make it (I might need to get a lil better first)

Mell , I think that pattern is the one our Keeron made, and it is the >>> Lightweight Jewel Shawl Designed by Chelle Grissam http://www.luv2crochet.com/blog/ Keeron Wrote this on how to find the pattern > Just go there and click on "my patterns" there you will find it. It's listed under "lightweight jewel shawl". Give a look at Keerons at this board > My poncho! keeron1 August 30, 2004

Bagpipes thanks for the link. There are some good prices on yarn there. The shipping must be expensive because the cones are heavy. Rhonda

Seneca, The link that you posted of someone selling free poncho patterns, I have seen most of them on the net, I believe on groovy. But I have not seen the first, multicolored granny square one or the brown one at the bottom pictured worn by a mother and daughter. Are these two available on the net for free? If you know of the site for these can you let me know. Thanks, Rhonda

hmm... I wonder why? It did last night.
I know that is the pattern for the mother and daughter picture featured in that eBay auction... I believe they were brown ponchos and near the bottom.
The one I've never seen on the net is the balck and white photo with the woman on her knee. The wrap is really long. Have you seen it?

I noticed you mentioned chenile yarn, which I can't really work with. Not easily. What other bulky, but round yarns might there be? I usually use red heart because it comes in large quanities and is fairly cheap.

Mell, Sorry I just saw your question about the negative feedback. Yes, I did. The seller has not left feedback on me as the buyer.
Guess he was angry that he/she didn't make the money on the shawls that they wanted.
