While I rather would leave my hair in the condition as it is, it looks very dull in color. I noticed lots of people having lots of shiny hair. I don't exactly want a "mirror finish" in shine, but it would be good if it at least would shine a bit (but, the more the better).
I heard some things like Nioxin or asking the hair for glossing or glazing.

So my question is: can everybody think about specific (home made) products that add shine naturally without having to visit the salon necessarily (either for simple shampoo or glossing/glazing).

The first thing I found was a kit from Nioxin which contains a Moisturizing Cleanser, Moisturizing Scalp Therapy, Cytonutrient Moisturizing Treatment, some Smoothing Reflectives Silk Elixir, Smoothing Reflectives Finishing Crme and...
Smoothing Reflectives Pure Shine Gel

Anything you all can recommend?
Thanks in advance for any input.

P.S. I did read a lot about it first, and having a healthy and balanced meal goes a long way, along with regular exercise and not doing drastic things to your hair like straightening, coloring and perming.

In Nioxin, the Silk Elixir and Pure Shine Gel are the best for shine.
Of course I love LC Legacy Shine&Protect. Its a spray on shine with lots of vitamins for healthy hair

But, as for home-made products, I don't know about any of those that don't have a few un-wanted side-effects.

I recently read that honey helped, but it was one ingredient in a total mix, so I doubt honey would be working alone.
The kit looks OK then. I'll buy it, since I really want to boost my hair without damaging it much any more (yes, avoiding perms will be a bit tough now, but I think it's for the best)

So, any more tips/ideas/insights?

[color:"blue"] Have you tried a brush with boar bristles? It works to help increase the shine in my hair. [/color]

No? I just use a wide toothed wooden comb. I'm not into brushes as much, since they damage more then help. <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

For me, I've found the best thing to promote shine, is a cold water rinse after washing. Adding a few drops of vegetable glycerin to your conditioner also helps shine. Also, the straighter the hair, the better the light will reflect off.

Woops, it's not that straight now. Permed it a long time ago (4 months). I should need a redo but either I leave it like it is for now and focus on shine or perm it again, but then I would like to set tight curls. Not like the loose curls I got after my first perm.

And as a side note: I ordered a Nioxin Kit with Pure Shine Gel and Reflectives Silk Elixir, together with 4 other products. I spoiled myself and both it in a quantity of 2. I think I deserve it.

I think you will see lots of shine soon. Your hair will be in better condition and the Pure Shine Gel has jojoba oil and silk amino acids for great shine.

Thanks. I'll let you know how it works out in this thread.
If it works out OK, I'll leave it like it is and just focus on shine. No perming or coloring, unless the shine doesn't work out. Except for that, I plan to wait until next summer for a tight curl perm.

Lynne,
Couldn't help noticing that you mentioned jojoba oil. I use this oil to combine it with essential oils for aromatherapy. It's very good for people with dry skin and can be used as a base oil for essential oils just like sunflowerseed oil and almond oil.
