I just wanted to share with you what some people will stoop to http://www.medidit.com/free/cpon.html and then see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8128075816 Can you believe this, they didn't even bother to use there own picture. Well I have emailed them, Ebay, and the buyer. The poor buyer did nothing wrong but the reason I emailed them was so that they could ask for their money back. I don't know how this craftskottage person lives with their self. See I can understand people not knowing that they can't make copies to share but this is just out and out right breaking the law, and there is no way I will EVER believe that they don't know it. Ok I'm done jumping up and down, thanks for listening.

Hi Eva,
I am a "newbie". I am so sorry that happened to you. I hope E-Bay can ban that seller from selling. There has to be something that they can do about it. I certainly won't buy from that person!

oh the wrath of ebay will be great.. the seller will be banned..

they do not tolerate copyright infringements of any kind.. they do not like being put in the middle of potentially illegal things AT ALL...

and i am glad you took action Eva ... BRAVO!!

alot of ppl would just let it go..

i hope its resolved soon for you

Well this will tell you what kind of person I am, I almost feel bad for telling but someone has to. I just feel awful about the buyer. I just think some people have no conscious, I am not perfect but I always try to do the right thing. The more I think about it, the more I feel so sad for that person that they have to resort to that to make money.

Woa! I'm happy that you caught this "thief". I may have given away a few patterns (not really allowed either) but I never sold someone elses patterns as my own!!
There is someone else on ebay selling the patterns from the fall issue of Crochet Fantasy. And a few others selling patterns that are free on other sites!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

Hi Eva,

I too have seen a lot of patterns on EBAY being sold that are free on the internet as well as all the new free patterns by Lionbrand. I was just wondering how you contacted EBAY? From what I heard, it is virtually impossible and you never get any human reply. Just alot of those automatic emails. I hate to see those people being taken advantage of. It is just wrong. Please let me know how you got in touch with them.

You go to the community link on top. I have to agree with Melissa, they usually do little or nothing and I am going to wait and see if this situation will be the same. Ebay seems to be under the impression that they are not responsible for what goes on on their website, which I think is not true. I did email Lion Brand and received a thank you email from them this morning. Those stinky stealers are going to regret that they ever did this. If you happen to be on ebay and you see a free pattern, save the auction and email to the rightful owner so that they can take care of it. Or you can do what I did last night, I pulled up the bidders list and emailed the buyers telling them they are buying a FREE pattern. If we all keep our eyes peeled these STINKIES won't be able to get away with it.

Where on earth were you able to locate a phone #? You should check out the EBAY forums of sellers. They all say there is no phone # available. The only people who have access to a # are the power sellers.

That's awful! People will do ANYTHING to make a quick buck. I've had one bad experience with a seller myself, trying to buy a vintage crochet book. Never received anything, left negative feedback, the whole shabang. The worst part was she kept e-mailing me saying my "order confirmation number" would arrive soon. To add insult to injury, I even paid for shipping insurance. STAY AWAY FROM "moki_fish" on E-bay! I wish I had seen her feedback before I bought!

Here is my response:

Ok let's do this again. I am the DESIGNER THAT HOLDS THE COPYRIGHT TO THE ACTUAL PATTERN. Are you with me so far ???????? http://www.bellaonline.org/articles/art6057.asp I wrote this pattern in 2001, which makes ME AND ONLY ME THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER WHICH MEANS THAT NO ONE CAN SELL IT WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION FROM ME ME ME !!!!!!!!! ok now we have taken care of the PATTERN PORTION. Now let's move on to the PICTURE, again it BELONGS TO ME AND NO ONE CAN USE IT OR SELL IT. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8128075816 this is the listing, I DID NOT GIVE PERMISSION TO SELL OR USE MY PICTURE.

Maybe I am just stupid here and I don't understand, see Lion Brand Yarns just spotted one of their patterns, that I alerted them to, and you immediately deleted it. Now my pattern has already been sold and here is what I expect from you:

1. Remove MY PICTURE from the auction immediately 2. Buyer should get their money back immediately 3. I know this is wishful thinking but here it goes BAN THIS SELLER ASAP.

Now is that so hard ? Do I need to have the owner of Bellaonline getting involved in this ?

Thanks
Eva
Who stupidly thought she was the copyright holder but Ebay thinks she isnt.

Maybe we should ban buying patterns from E-Bay unless the seller can prove he or she has exclusive rights to it. That would clear up a lot of confusion.

Check this one out... the same seller has the nerve to put an extra "Note" in the description when in fact he/she does exactly the opposite.

I really hope you get something done about this EVA. Maybe by asking them if you need to get the owner of Bellonline involved will do the trick. It seems that on EBAY what is okay for one person is not okay for another. They protect their power sellers like little babies. I guess that is because they bring in so much money for EBAY. I have tried over a period of several months to get a few power sellers auctions removed but to no avail. Good luck EVA, and yes, please keep us posted.

FINALLY, WHEW this was alot of work. Ok they did remove the listing and hopefully they will be giving the lady her money back (I did request that they make her do that). She still is selling my pattern with fun fur around it but here is how I look at it:

I have WASTED 2 days trying to get thru to the village idots, I won't wast anymore time on this. It is negative energy that I could be using for good. I really appreciate all of you supporting me on this. The bright side is we have a new member joining us so in my eyes this was worth meeting her.

This is also a good lesson for all of us on what happens when someone infringes on your copyrights, it isn't fun. I guess when you just don't have a creative mind you just steal from others, which is what they have done. But like I said let's just move one, the yarn goddess knows we are right and she is the one who matters.

I've been out of town a few days....WOW at what i missed.
Eva, I still may not completely understand copyrights, and EVEN I could see that this is blatently illegal. I'm with Keeron, I may be guilty of copying and sharing a pattern now and then, but never have I ever tried to take credit or even make money off some one else's hard work, passing it off as my own. that's just out right lying.
if its any conselation, i just checked the link, and the site is down.
sounds like Ebay's reply was a "computer generated" response, and no one probably looked at it real close until you got ugly with them. and GOOD FOR YOU!!!! you were nicer than i'd have been.

See !
I told you Girls our EVA queen is an example for us.
She just went through a situation to show us what stealing can do.
And , even when she IS right (( or we at times when things like this happen to us )) her character was questioned.
She is a KOOL lady, and even her words to E-bay were not harsh enough to cause their Character to be ruined.
She was used to prove a point and for us to once again see her wisdom !!
She really STITCHED <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> this one up good !!!

EVAqueen Thanks for the instructions !

Eva,
I am so relieved to hear that Ebay finally understood what you were saying. Sometimes I think they only hire morons. Good for you getting Ebay to force the "stinky stealer" to remove your patterns. YEA!!!!

Eva, She is now selling patterns from the Lionbrand website!!! She has 2 auctions:
#8130095000 and 8130358840
For the Fun Fur Poncho. The photo is hers, but the pattern is not.

It's against eBay policy to "warn" bidders; that's considered auction interference. However, you can email the bidders with the website to the free pattern. hehehe Sneaky, sneaky. I am trying to email lionbrand but my server isn't working right now, so everyone reading this please email lionbrand to report her. Also flood eBay with complaints listing the auction numbers.

Have a great day everyone, and feel good that you did a good deed. viking

Actually, if you take a look at it, it isn't the lionbrand poncho it is http://www.bellaonline.org/articles/art6057.asp with fun fur around the top. I have emailed ebay again but I refuse to go thru the stress. If they pay attention great, if they don't oh well <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I firmly believe in this saying:

If you buy it, it is blessed
If you steal it, it is cursed

This is Poncho season.
I can't see what the pattern is cause the
yarn is blocking the stitch.

Its so sad that people will do things like this for money. I totally agree with Aunty M. Someone should Email the bidders with the website that the free pattern is on.

I think it's pretty pathetic that E-Bay won't just suspend her account. Maybe if you threaten to take legal action with E-Bay, they'll take you seriously.

Merwyn,
I saw that too, it really burns me up about people selling patterns that are taken from a magazine! For what you pay for the pattern and shipping, you could buy the magazine! Especially when it is the current magazine.

I sell on eBay and sell the entire magazine. I just don't have the heart to dissemble a perfectly good magazine. Besides, some patterns are continued on other back pages, sometimes several on the same page, and it is more headache to keep track of all that. Much easier to sell the whole thing intact. As long as there are those who buy the individual patterns, those sellers will keep tearing out individual patterns. They make more money that way.

I think the reason the sellers put a logo on their photo is so nobody steals their photos. It's against eBay policy but it does happen. Happened to me (and I don't use a logo) and the other seller even stole my text! That's also against ebay policy. I reported the other seller and her auctions were removed.

As for craftskottage, I don't see any patterns on her auction listings today. Good. Report her every time Eva! viking
