Hi everyone! I was leafing through a Mon Tricot magazine from the seventies and what do you think I found? You guessed it. The very same celebrity shawl that's been causing such a stir. According to what I read (and I only skimmed the instructions) it is very similiar to the one that the lady (I forget her name) is getting paid $200 a pop for. I'd have to ask my mother to tell me the exact mag date/year, but it was a match. The only difference was that instead of doing it in monotone, some random flowers were in color. Now tell me, is that copyright infringement or not? Maybe the woman (again, her name escapes me) saw it a while back and later on she believed she came up with it. Not to point fingers, but oops! eek

There is an article somewhere online about Cecilia DeBucort and she DOES NOT make the shawl, she hires ladies in Brazil to make them for her. I am not sure if she made the pattern up or if she was on vacation, saw the shawl and liked the pattern ? I have not asked her so I am only making guesses.

In my very humble opinion, everything, and I mean EVERYTHING is based on something someone saw or previously done. I do not mean in anyway to say that people are not talented, it does take quite a bit of talent to get the design from idea to paper and then the finished product.

I totally agree with you...that's what seems to make the whole business of infringement harder to fathom. I get that a technique can't be copyrighted, but it's hard to understand why changes or improvements on existing patterns can't be. Oh well, I'll just create from the heart and hope not to step on any toes!!!
