I was watching Senators debate on C-span. It was predictable. Republican Jeff Sessions from Alabama says we are are at a point in our history where we have to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. California Democrat Barbara Boxer wants to leave it to the discretion of State law. I agree with Mr. Sessions. There is really no such thing as same-sex sex marriage. Marriage exists for the purpose of having children and raising them in a secure family environment. Homosexuals have been activists since the end of the Vietnam War. Their lifestyle is a perversion of both nature and the precepts of every religion known to man. No one cares what they do as long as they do not recruit. They want recognition because it would mean money and increased power. Let's get behind President Bush and support a Marriage Amendment.

I'm married, but I don't plan to have children. Does that make my marriage invalid?

Your marriage is valid because it is a union between a man and a woman.

Well, I happen to disagree with you there, Jim. I don't care what gay people do. Their marrying doesn't affect me personally one way or another.

But I'm so happy to hear that YOU think my marriage is valid. I was worried you were going to tell me that I had to divorce because I didn't plan to propagate the species.

Well, it's not like he's the first person to be posting these types of opinions here anyway...we've seen all this stuff before. It's getting quite boring, really.

First of all.....what is the purpose of the CONSTITUTION?

It is a great document because it defines the rights of the PEOPLE who choose to live under a unified government (not a person but an entity).

A Constitution, particularly the American one, should only exist for the purposes of granting and limiting the powers of the government. It should specifically state what rights the government does NOT have over its people. The power to form congress and the power to go to war does not intrude upon the rights of the people to pursue happiness and do what they want in their bedroom.

It is completely improper and not the purpose of the Constitution to tell people how to live their lives and to dish out morality. Morals are often dependent on religious/spiritual values. We decided to have separation of church and state here. Any Constitutional amendment that comes from a religious moral is wrong.

Lastly, can't you even see that this is a weak attempt by Pres. Bush to get the focus off his illegal wiretapping, his illegal and immoral prisons in Guantanamo Bay, his illegal CIA detentions in Europe, and his plunging the federal deficit further into the toilet?

Surely you can see that that is the sole purpose of this new ridiculous concept that the Constitution be used to wage moral war against citizens. Surely, you saw that the immigration debate was a similar attempt to deflect the focus on him.

My focus remains on him. Bush is the most immoral, most illegal president ever and he has acted in every way Unamerican. I can't wait for him to meet his maker.

I think you're giving him too much credit. Clearly, he sees no such thing. I'm just glad that the majority of the world (and the majority of Americans) does.

Kudos to you, for this response. I could not agree with you more. I am not a Christian, so I believe that any amendment made out of any religious belief (Christian or otherwise) is absolute BS. And my husband is fighting for this country of ours and defending our Constitution. Any additions or changes to the Constitution based on religious belief are going to make many people in the military believe that the Constitution is no longer worth fighting for. It is, after all, for ALL Americans. And yes, that includes gay people. (And hey, guess what? There are gay people in the military, defending this Constitution! OH. THE. HORROR!)

Sorry, got sarcastic there for a minute. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
