Hi all - I'm looking for a pattern to make
scarves that are not woolly and warm, but
lightweight enough to wear indoors as accessories
at least part of the year. Any ideas?

I have seen scarves that look to knit from some
of the fine cotton yarns, but don't know what
to enter in a Google search for a pattern. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The ones I'm thinking of have a sort of open, mesh-like
look, if that helps... Thank you!

You really don't need to find a pattern just pull out some of your stitch books and just pick a lacey pattern. Knit it your desired width and you are good to go.

I agree. No pattern is required. You can look in a stitch dictionary (I recommend Vogue's), or pull something from a sweater pattern that you like. Make it as wide as you like, and then go as long as you like.

If you get a really cool yarn and want it to be the star (rather than some intricate pattern), try using really big needles and doing something as simple as garter stitch (knit every row) or knit two rows, purl two rows. The joy of this is that it will go really fast!

Have fun!

Hi. I have a free pattern on my website that serves as both jewellry, a light shawl AND a scarf (how accesory-like is that?). I sold one based on the same pattern to Jessica Lang recently (she was in town doing a movie!) You can find it at http://janethornley.com/journal_patterns.php

I was thrilled when I heard Jessica bought one, though I tried to be cool and grown up about it. Forget that -- I whooped!
