Hi, This is a question regarding the proper application of moisturizer and foundation. I have always washed my face with just water and then applied the moisturizer while my face is still wet. I thin apply the foundation immediately before the moisturizer sinks into my skin. I tried letting the moisturizer dry and then apply the foundation but found it did not go on as smooth. Am I wrong? Also, by doing it this way, does it negate(proper spelling I hope)the effects of moisturizer and foundation such as spf factor and anti-aging effects?

Hi Sandie16.
Thanks for your question!
The best thing to do would be to blot your face after you've washed it. Moisturizer immediately and then wait at least 15 minutes before you put your foundation on. Your skin absorbs the moisturizer and if you put the foundation on right after the moisturizer, your skin will absorb both products...you don't want that. If you find that the foundation doesn't go on smoothly, you could add a drop of moisturizer to it. Or, maybe you should consider switching foundation; something creamier, more liquid, etc.

That was a good question!
I was also finding that when I applied foundation it would sometimes not go on very smooth and went on too dry/cakey even though I have oily/combination skin...I think that is why I have stopped using foundation and have been using only a pressed powder after cleansing/moisturizing my face...
Is it true that if you use too much moisturizer, your foundation won't stay on?
Thanks, for clarifying that CC, if I go back to using foundation I will know what to do...

As I (hopefully gracefully) age, I notice that foundation seems to emphasize my wrinkles, but I have so many other face issues I can't go without. I'm thinking of trying that Bare Mineral stuff.

Hi Franny, although your skin is combination/oily, you could also have dehydrated skin. You'll notice it most when you apply foundation and it looks like its caking or flaking on you. It's not the product, it's the dead skin cells. You can eliminate this by exfoliating at least once a week.
As for too much moisturizer, yes, it's true. And the same can be said for a moisturizer that's very thick. If you think of your skin like a sponge, once it's completely saturated, it won't take in anymore.

Have any of you tried primer? I find it a big help in summer especially for my oily skin.
Sephora's brand is formulated pretty close to the Old English primer that gets great reviews.

I have used Oil of Olay (w/UV protection) for years and I've learned alot from ya'll. I always wondered why my face would "melt" or disappear after a few hours, ON SOME DAYS, while other days, it would be fine. Sometimes, I put my face on right AFTER I put on moisturizer (rushing) and it did not last. I started putting on light powder when I was finished and it lasted MUCH better, esp. if I let the moisturizer soak into my skin first. My face just LOVES to soak moisture and "izer" up this time of year, and I give it tons! In 10 or 15 min. my skin soaks up most of it.
Now on to a little mid age joke...or not... I was never much into makeup, just a little concealer and blush (just more as I turned 54) and today I worked with 2 female teachers who are 30. WOW! Young skin without any makeup, or at least without the need for any. I felt WAY made-up. I wonder if the kids notice things like that? <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi CC - I just saw your reply...this thread wasn't on my favourites, but it is now...thanks!
Can you recommend a good exfoliator? I have sensitive skin as well so not everything goes...lol
I have been using Ponds cold cream for a moisturizer and it's been great for me!

Could you please give me the full product name of the primer you are talking about? I think it would help me in summer as I have oily skin as well...
