Having seen a fair share of stories by various media outlets I would have to say I've seen both. The media lives and dies by the 'buzz factor' of a story and apparently they are prone to featuring those with the most. Sensationalizing is selling. Media pays the bills with advertising.
Fair and balanced reporting can be found occassionally but unfortunately those stories are usually buried below those with a higher buzz factor.
