Let me be clear on what you're asking--do you want to know if 6 ounces of worsted weight yarn is enough to make a blanket? Off hand I'd say no, but I've got a handy chart at home and I'll go look. Can you respond with the yardage you've got (if you know it)? Yardage per ounce can vary greatly depending on fiber content, so 6 ounces of a lightweight yarn (acrylic) could be a lot more than 6 ounces of a heavier yarn (cotton).

I'll be back, probably tonight.

Hmmm. My yardage chart says that you'll need 1400 yards to make a lap afghan, and 2600 yards for a full-sized afghan out of worsted weight yarn. In comparison, a men's size 40 sweater takes just under 1300 yards of worsted weight. So unless you think it looks like more yarn than you'd need for a typical men's sweater, then you don't have enough.

Does anyone else have a good comparison of ounces to yards?

No. 6 ounces of worsted weight yarn will not even get you a decent sized knitted baby blanket.

If you are using Simply Soft, you're going to need even more yarn than what your blanket pattern calls for-- at least that has been my experience when knitting with Simply Soft. If you are knitting a full-size afghan for an adult, expect to use about 9 or 10 skeins of yarn. For a child, I'd say 6-8 skeins. For a baby, 4 or 5 skeins of yarn might be appropriate.

Without knowing your pattern and gauge, there really isn't a good way to accurately tell you exactly how much yarn you will need for a blanket. About all any of us can do is tell you that one skein of yarn won't get you much in the way of a blanket, unless you are knitting it for a small doll or teddy bear! With that skein, you do have enough to make a hat.
