I'm new to knitting and so far am mastering the most basic stitch. I'm knitting a simple scarf and I'd like to change colours but I'm having little success. I was advised to just tie in the new colour and keep knitting. However, the yarn is bulky and a bit slippery and the knot won't stay. Do I need to use a specific type of knot? Is their a better way to switch colours? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! <img src="/images/graemlins/rolling.gif" alt="" />

Any basic knot will do--whatever will hold for you is fine. Another solution would be to change colors at the beginning of a row, rather than in the middle. Then you can just leave long tails of both the old and new colors, and worry about sewing those in once the scarf is done.

Good luck! Chime in again if this doesn't help.

I hate weaving in bulky ends! Uck! I usually knit them in as I go. And yes, start a new color at the beginning of the row.
