hi
i would really like to learn aari work. i really dont know if its called something else. but its made by crochet like needle and looks like chain stitch. design is used for filling or just outline.
other thing i would like to learn is different methods of transfering design on cloth. tressing is bit difficult for me. heard something about poking butter papper with needle and putting powdered blue (cloth whitening) mixed with some oil. or anyother method.
i am new to embroidery.
thanks

Hi Mayborn

Aari work is also called tambour work. It was extremely popular in the 18 & early 19th Centuries in England.

I've never actually done any tambour work myself, but will start doing some more research for an article on it.

There are many different ways to transfer patterns to fabric - just checked. I thought I had put up an article on this, but it's not there. I have definately written one, so I'll dig it out and make sure it's all up to date and post it.

Welcome to Embroidery, Mayborn. It's a very rewarding hobby - and India has some beautiful forms (especially shisha work).

hi Megan_M,
thanks for the reply. i started with aari work (tambour work) but lots of mistakes and and uneven work . maybe practise will help me.
it would be great help if u keep me updated on those things.
yes India is famous for its shisha work. sequins and jardosi work is also done along with it on fabrics. i never tried doing it myself but now i am planning to learn all in embroidery
thanks once again
