I just got a cold sore yesterday and as of today it's a monster! I got one a couple of months ago as well. I took abrevea and it really did a good job and I'm using this time around but I'd like to know what NATURAL ways I can help it go away in addition to the abreva. I've heard of holding a garlic clove to it, as well as ice. I also heard that a warm tea bag helps...does the tea bag need to be moist or just warm?? Thank you for any confirmations of these remedies as well as new ones!!

There's a supplement called l-lysine that's supposed to supress the virus that causes cold sores. However, the last time I had one, I had a dentist appt and they prescribed Zorivax and it was fabulous--I got the cold sore that day and so it was pretty big by the time I got the medicine, but it totally stopped it. I think there's a generic available now, but don't recall the name.

I doubt it's natural, but I work with the public and trying to smile with those things without making them crack & bleed is impossible, plus, people look at you like it's leprosy! I've gotten them for years--my first time, I had 12 at one time--they all grew into one big one! I was 15 years old! What a trauma! At that time, Campho-Phenique was the only thing and I'm not sure it was good for anything besides some temporary relief.

Good luck getting rid of yours.

Thank you so much for your input and advice. I saw that lysine on the internet when I was looking for remedies as well. I will definitely look into that. Is it over the counter or has to be perscribed? I want to get rid of this thing asap...have a wedding to go to one week from friday!!

I'm pretty sure it's otc--check drugstores and vitamin/supplement places like GNC.

Good Luck getting rid of it in time!

hi all,

abrevea is good but I think claritin is equally good.. I have experienced good results with it too.
