I recently published an article concerning e-mail etiquette
and received several positive responses by e-mail. http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art29245.asp

My pet peeve with e-mail is with friends who never send me anything except 'Forwards' They don't even take the time to say 'Vannie look at this' grrr! What's your pet peeve?

I am selective about what I forward to my friends/family, although I rarely put a personal note on them because I forward to so many at one time, but I understand your point. Although I'd rather get a forward from a friend than no email at all.

My pet peeves are (1) overly religious/political emails, (2) forwards that ask you to forward it on to 10 friends to prove what kind of friend you are , and (3) warnings of viruses and other threats that are most likely hoaxes.

LOL. I just received a forward to 10 friends e-mail

You know, I never thought of a friend's forwarded e-mail versus no mail from her at all At least I know that she is o.k. I think from now on, I will (not each time) respond and say thanks, and ask how she is doing rather than deleting

Ha ha. I agree with everything posted, but when I was working (in an office...my former life), I always really hated it when someone sent me an email and then 10 minutes later stopped me in the hall saying, "Did you get my email? (then, no matter what my reply) Well, I just wanted to tell you that..."

Grrr. Just let me read the email--that's why we have it!!!

I truly understand. My office life is just recently behind me. I used to have people e-mail documents for review rather than in-house mail because they thought they would get a quicker response. I became very wise--I printed the document, date stamped it and put it in that days mail. Even when I asked people not to do this unless it was extremely urgent. They did it again and again

This is the heading of an article concerning ousted Boeing CEO "Indiscreet E-Mail Claims a Fresh Casualty" by Alan Murray, The Wall Street Journal. The link below shows just how damaging indiscriminate e-mail can prove to be

The problem is those of us who know what we should and should not do are the only ones who pay attention to this advice. Everyday I get a warning that my box is almost full and then I miss out on some emails. Reason? My old bosses hubby likes to forward... EVERYTHING... one email alone today was 6MB

Poor old guy needs to come out of retirement! He has no idea of the size of things he sends.

LOL you're right about that. It's sort of like singing to the choir.

I get that too. I think it's because they don't really read the stuff, so they have no idea how long it is. They just forward it to their 'list'
