I have never had any problems with the pill, but my friend got pregnant while she was on the birth control patch. When she went to her doctor, she said that she was the 7th or 8th person in the same situation (b/c of the patch) that had come in during the last week. She says that it fell off once but that she followed the directions about what to do in case that happened.

some antibiotics can knock out the pill's effectiveness.

in fact that info should be somewhere in the documentation that you receive with the prescription - or you can ask the doctor or the pharmacist which antibiotics would interfere and then, if you really need to take that antibiotic, just be extra careful and use additional protection (on top of taking the pill - you continue to take it even when on an antibiotic).

I got pregnant on the Ortho Tricyclin almost 13 yrs ago. No I did not miss a day, took it at the same time every day within 1 hour and I was only 6 mo postpartum from my first baby. When I started fighting extreme fatigue, migraine headaches and loss of apetite with nausea the Dr couldn't figure out what was wrong. I was tested for all kinds of things and scheduled for a CAT scan. A couple of days before I was supposed to go for the CAT she called and asked if I would come in for one more test. Turned out it was a pregnancy test and it was positive instantaneously.

It actually turned out to be a great thing. I got a fabulous daughter out of it.

Wow, that is really good to know about the 7-8 cases your doc mentioned. I am afraid of the patch because it seems like it could come off or something. Excellent point about the antibiotics. Any time I am on them, I am extra careful. I think a lot of people are unaware of the fact that they can lower effectiveness.

The pill was initally designed to MAKE women pregnant and hey presto!!......the opposite effect resulted.
Have worked in the business and experienced +++++ different outcomes. NOTHING is 100% foolproof / safe including pill.
Some women take with no bother or side effects > stop > immediately pregnant as planned.
Others > stop > no pregnancy > infertility clinic > need kick start with clomid type med> usually sucessful.
In addition to antibiotics, I have seen a handful of cases where other meds also interrupted protection.
Seen many woman who became pregnant while on pill following a bout of mild illness (flu / infection/ /diarrhoea).
Every woman is individual, and body chemical balance is individually assigned for each of us.
So dont take pill and forget to be vigalent.
