I recently learned how to do this from Debbie Kanan's book,
The Basics of Bead Stringing. Someone on another forum I visit found this tutorial, which is the exact same technique from Kanan's book:
http://www.rockhounds.com/rockgem/articles/wirewrap.htmlI initially went to my 'bible', Mark Lareau's
All Wired Up, expecting to find his usual excellent teaching. But on wire wrapping, he stinks! I'd expected Kanan's to be difficult because it looked complicated in the book, but once I sat down with it I'd finished my first gemstone in about 2 hours and was soon cranking them out in about 30 minutes. In addition to the way the tutorial shows, you can take the wires and spread them out over the stone, making designs with a twist of the pliers and making more with excess ends. Mine turned out gorgeous, if I do say so myself, and I sold several at a holistic healing fair I did two weeks ago. I got lots of compliments on them from everyone who stopped by my table, including another vendor who was selling his own <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
