Good book about American fast food. "Fast Food Nation"- By Eric Schlosser. They sell fish and chips here... just Americanized..... I love foreign food too, especially the Turkish food I had when I was there... YUMMY

raytan,

do you guys still have "Wimpy Burgers" over there? Worst thing I ever tried to eat, even worse than fast food here in the US.

I've read "Fast food nation" and it's a very powerful book.

it's not just about how bad fast food is for you, it really goes into the history of the fast food industry and its huge impact on american agriculture and the economy - as well as the health of americans.

the uk release of "Supersize me" on dvd has a long interview with schlosser as one of the extras - well worth seeing.

btw brits eat more fast food than any of our neighbours in continental europe so we're heading in the same direction as the USA healthwise....

I had a wimpy burger once many years ago - not sure if they're still going....

I saw "Supersize Me", too, and I recommend it to anyone who is interested in the unhealthy habits of the American culture. Especially the remarks by many of the teenagers, who were totally unaware what they were doing by eating so much of that so-called "food", were very unsettling.

Mais, mes amis, that appears to be what is considered American "culture" these days.

If you do some research about this film the facts are not as shocking as they are presented. The filmmaker did not eat 3 meals - he was taking in over 5000 calories a day which equals to 6 meals and a few snacks thrown in. He spent $8.75 per meal which in the states is enough to feed a family of 3. If you don't believe me check his website it says it all on there.

All in all - this clearly is not an accurate depiction of American diets.

Depending on where you live, prices of McDonalds differ. In my state I've noticed price differences, but it might not be a big difference. He must've been "Supersizing" his meals. Even though it's not accurate, he shows you what no exercise and lots of fast food do to you.

Regardless - he spent $26.26 everyday eating only at McDonalds, eliminating all exercise, all while taking in over 5000 calories per day. Its all excessive and no matter how bad your diet may be this is unrealistic. And what about the guy who only ate big macs? He was skinny and healthy.

Stephanie, et al in the forum. A nice little restraunt opened up just around the corner from me called "The Cajun Catfish". It is not fancy nor has some chain put it's mark on it. The owner invested his sweat, tears and money to get this place running. What is the menue? Catfish, Shrimp, Oysters, Crawfish and Clams. All the items are fresh and prepared in a Louisana style. If you like fish or seafood this place is almost heaven sent. The prices are good and they will even fix a carry out meal. Adios McDonalds, Burger King, Hardy's etc.,etc. Oh, they have two different soups to choose from Seafood Chowder or Gumbo. Nothing from the can; all fresh ingrediants and veeery tasty.
