On the news this morning, the top story is how half the city is without power. Seems a raccoon got into a power station in the east end of the city and chewed through some major lines....the gal who reads the news told how she walked down her street at 3:30 this morning to get to work, using a flashlight!!!

I guess it was warm in there.....it's a cold day here today and the raccoon probably thought he had found heaven. The fate of the raccoon is unknown at this time. I hope, at least, he hasn't *literally* found heaven...Power is expected to be restored within a few hours.

All I can say is that it's a darn good thing it didn't affect MY part of the city!!!!! I am back online now, with my brand new Dell computer and after MANY hours getting it all hooked up and in working order yesterday, I'd be crankier than a raccoon caught in the act, if I had woken up without power this morning!!!! eek

Glad to have you back online Shelley. We've missed you here.

Power outages are not fun for most people. We are so dependant on electricity. I hope the raccoon survived, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't. Chewing through major power lines usually has a bad effect on one's health.

Yeah, but then I wouldn't be having so much "fun" this evening. Ahem. (.....runs..........)

I've been helping Shelley iron out a few of the "new computer kinks" this evening.

Seriously, glad to have you back my friend!

As for the raccoon, I agree with Rose that the poor thing probably didn't survive his experience.

I'll see if they give an update tomorrow morning on the news!

It's great to be back online. I feel as if it's been *my* power that's been out!!! And now I've been restored!!!

Wonder if I'd find a raccoon inside my monitor if I dared to look.... (maybe a squirrel...eating chocolate chip cookies...)

Snort!

So glad this raccoon didn't interfere with your connection, Shelley. As for the fate of the raccoon, I would probably be surprised if it survived such an electrifying encounter. I'm thankful that my housing development has all the phone and electrical wires underground, as, according to one power company repairmen, squirrels are one of the most common causes of power outages to those people served by above-ground lines. When repairmen come out to locate the source of minor power outages, they frequently find a (fried)squirrel behind the problem.

Oh, yes indeed, squirrels are a common cause of minor power outages. The first summer we moved into our place, our power was mysteriously out while none of our neighbors' was. The power company found a dead squirrel when they were checking out the problem. Poor little critter, I guess it was just to shocking of an experience for him (sorry for the really bad pun - couldn't help myself).
