I have lots of experience with alpaca. All you really have to do is brush or flick it. You can use a dog flicker brush. I do wash mine and let it air dry. I send all my alpaca to Stonehedge fiber mill in Michigan to be processed. Anne

I am new at spinning and just use a drop spindle...looking for a wheel and I have tried the Ashford Traveler and love it but their are sooo many wheels that its hard to choose. I got started by wanting to use spun wool on my gourd containers and it just grew....Its very soothing and I love doing it. Rowena

Rowena,

How do you use fiber with gourds? That's a new one! I'd love to hear!

Cara, One of the ways I use wool that was spun on gourds is I take a gourd that has been dyed and varnished and holes drilled on the top. I use wax linen and some sort of vine..like grape or honeysuckle etc. and put it around the top and then weave in the fibers..I have some pictures if you would like me to send them of my work...Its just something different on gourds and it expands my craft. Thanks for asking...

Hi, I am a spinner from central NY. Sadly I haven't been at it for a while now. But it calls me. I raised angora rabbits and spin their hair. I've made some mittens and other things. At first the mittens looked just a tiny bit fuzzy, then after I wore them a bit they puffed out all over really cool looking. I get my wool from a lady a couple of miles from me and I wash it, hang it on clothes bars and air dry it. I love the feel and smell of freshly washed wool. Sure need to get back at it. Burnetta
