I am new to making jewelry. I want to make and sell my pieces, however I'm affraid I might make a piece similar to someone elses. How can I know that I'm not steping on someone else toes? Or what percentage does the piece have to be different to call my own? Do I get a copywrite?
Thank you =)

Hi Angela,

Congratulations on your new jewelry making goals! Jewelry making is a lot of fun and very satisfying - and pretty addictive!

Questions of copyright aren't always "cut and dry." Unfortunately, I'm not currently licensed to practice law, so I cannot give you any legal advice.

I can, however, direct you to some Internet resources on copyright that I've found helpful.

Thanks, Nicci!

The Jewelry Making Editor, Faith, has actually written an entire eBook on this subject since I first replied to this post.

It's available in BellaOnline's new eBook Shop here:
