I homeschool my 13 and 9 year old. I really had to motivate both to begin lessons. My one year old has motivated herself, LOL!

She loves books and being read to. She snatches their school books, pencils and crayons when she can and will scribble on paper if given the chance. When I call for schooltime, she too comes and sits with them.

I have no intention of trying to teach her to read or anything like that. I do want to work with her interests and let her feel like she is a part of things so I am trying to decide how to handle this at her young age.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

My 1 yr old is showing signs of that as well, but it's a struggle to get the older two to do either - and it's always been with them.

The 1 yr old has free access to most of our books and she will sit down with one and point out things and just blabber away, haaaa.

We got a great pic of Ashilyn trying to be a big girl so I put it as my sig.

I have printed some coloring pages for her and bought a few coloring books. I also ordered some foam shapes for her.

So I am slowly putting together something to work as little lessons for her.

How old is she? My Jayden will be 15 months in a few days and has been a MAJOR pickly lately.

Ashilyn is all of one year. She thinks she is the big girl! The only context she prefers to be the baby is "let's feed the baby, let's give the baby toys, let's give the baby attention..." then she is all for being the baby.

I have 4 kids, 8, 6, 6, and 2. My son, who will be 3 in October, has always been in the middle of everything, just like the twins were for their older sister. It's been messy, but it makes participating in learning a part of their lives, rather than something we shut them out of until they're "old enough."

I am a huge believer in learning being a natural part of life, rather than trying to squeeze life in around the edges of a schedule. So, even though it means stopping for a minute when the baby dumps the cuisenaire rods, I am glad to have it this way. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
