What is your biggest challenge when it comes to homeschooling?

For me I would say it's lack of organization and time management.

Getting up?

I am finding I have a lack of time. It's a larger effort to get the kids motivated to begin lessons. Preparation takes time I find I really don't have.

Some days I have to dig deep to find the positive reasons I homeschool to continue.

I have to echo the time management sentiment. I can have a really great homeschool day, or get the house really clean, or run errands, but I can never manage all three in a day...

I have the added stress of juggling in work with household things and homeschooling. It's been muh harder since we began our own business.

State laws dictate whether testing is required or not. At some point though, a homeschooler finds themselves taking some sort of test to graduate.

SATs - depends on a few things.
1. does your state law require annual testing? If so, in most cases the SAT and ACT are considered nationally normed tests for annual evaluation requirements.

2. Do you want to go to a college or university? If so, does the college require a SAT or ACT score? Some colleges waive the test requirement if your grades are good, you have extra curriculars, you have lots of volunteer hours, you write an essay, etc. Still, I recommend that if someone wants to go to college they take the SAT or ACT.

As for a "proppa skewl" most homeschoolers think learning outside of a school is more natural and proper, but that's a matter of opinion.

Take care,

Another solution is to attend community college. That's what my kids did. They only had to take math and English placement tests and then they started right in. No SATs and much cheaper tuition! Then they transfer in without having to meet any special homeschooling requirements when they are ready for a university.
