I love trying a variety of wines and not drink the same wine twice, but if I'm grabbing a comfort wine usually I go for Rosemount. They have a pretty reliable selection of wines I enjoy a lot.

An excellent choice!

An interesting story was done on buying habits at the California Wine Club. Beginning wine drinkers often buy the same type of wine over and over, not reaching beyond their knowledge base. Women tended to be more adventerous.

Well I can understand their logic completely - if you're going to shell out $12 for a "non essential menu item" you don't want to hate it and have to pour it out. And if you're going out to dinner you don't want to necessarily ruin that special event with a bad wine either. That's why casual wine parties are so great - it lets you try a bunch of wines in a situation where having a bad bottle or two isn't a big deal ...

Casual wine parties are excellent for trying and comparing wines. Many don't fully understand the wide range available among Chardonnays, Merlots, etc. Only when comparing directly does the drinker really taste the difference.

I like restaurants that do flights of wine.

I just love places that offer wine flights too! I generally like to try something new when I'm out, but my "comfort" favorites are: Ravenswood (Red) Zinfindel, Bonnie Doon Pacific Rim Reisling, and then a very inexpensive spanish "tempranillo" red called "Penascal."
(And, I should add a plug for our friend's Minnesota wines; Alexis Bailly Vineyard we love the Leon Millot, and her orange-infused Ratafia aperitif/desert wine is quite unique.) :rolling:

That orange-infused wine sounds intriguing. I just did a piece on different wine types that discusses aromatized wines (wines infused with flavors).
