How is your school library used? Are you there to occupy children during a planning period or do you strictly manage the library and allow teachers and students to use the library during certain times?

Ah the eternal problem of libraries. I'm on a set schedule, but am not considered planning time. My principal is very good, he has made certain the teachers understand that the purpose of the specialty subjects is not to provide them breaks, but to educate the students (and in mine and the computer teacher's case the teachers).

This year the computer teacher and I have waited until the third week to begin classes. The prinicpal asked that we meet with every teacher during the second week so that we could discuss curriculum and collaboration.

Flex scheduling for grade three and above is the ideal. It gives the teachers and students maximum access to the library and the opportunity to collaborate. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
