The grant-making program of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family
Literacy seeks to develop or expand projects that are designed to
support the development of literacy skills for adult primary care
givers and their children. A total of approximately $650,000 will be
awarded; no grant request should exceed $65,000. Eligible
organization classification codes include LIB for Library, STA for
State Agency, and LEA for Local Education Agency. In order to be
considered for a grant, an organization must meet the following
criteria:
the organization must have been in existence for two or more years;
the organization must have maintained fiscal accountability;
the organization must currently have an instructional literacy
program that has operated for at least two years and includes one or
more components of a family literacy program, specifically, literacy
for adults, parent education, pre-literacy or literacy for children,
or intergenerational literacy activities;
the organization must have maintained current non-profit or public
status for at least two years as of the date of the grant
application.
