Helloooooo,
Here I go again asking 4 help.....lol..thank god 4 this forum, I decided 2 knit that poncho with no pic and I'm nearlly finished and would like to make some pompom's on the end of a tie.......the question is

How do I make the ties that the pompom hangs off on ???????

I kinda remember when I was younger you could buy a round wooden peg type thing with little nails on top and a small opening in the centre....you wrap the wool around these nails somehow which I have forgotton how to do...... and through the centre of this peg would come out a round woolen string.
So please if any 1 has any idea on what I'm talking about please reply.

Kathy, that sure takes me back a bit but I do remember making those long tubes then wrapping them around in a flat circle to make potholders <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The spool has 4 nails or prongs on top. Wrap around the outside twice then with a crochet hook lift the lower one over the top one toward the inside and just keeping wrapping over this way, nail by nail, as you rotate the spool.

Hi Kathy, WOW way to go, almost done with your poncho. Here is a link to some pretty good instructions on how to make a pom pom http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting/tips/pompom.htm I usually use the lid to the plasic butter tub (small one) or whatever you might have. Just make sure to check the sizes, a bigger lid makes a really huge pom pom. Let me know if you need more help. :love:
