Ja mam zapytanie od ciebie. Ja prosze dla twoy pomoc

Do you remember a while back. You and I discussed Polish surnames
Mine is Krawczyk Krawiec tailor
czyk son of a tailor
Thus in America I ended up as Frank Taylor

We decided that your name Cybulski ended up as cebula ( Onion ) So somewhere in your background one of your family was a onion farmer

I have a lot of fun with this..

I have been trying to figure what Nancies American name would be..Maciolek ( I remember the saying ( on mial macieja serce )
Would that mean sadness? If so then how would that apply to Nancy

Frank,

I have been told that "Maciolek" is derived from the first name Maciej (Matthew) so it might be somethink like "little Matthew" or "Matthewson" or something.

I have also heard it might mean "little Mother" (the -ek meaning little). None of that applies to me!

But I have not before heard your saying (and just how do you translate THAT ONE?) But that might apply because many in my Maciolek line are subject to deep melancholy...

By the way, part of my family (the Karas line, yes that means fish or carp)is from a village called Olszyny, and that is near a village called Olpiny, and there are Krawczyks in that area) It is east of Krakow, west of Rzeszow, and therefore west and south of where your family comes from.)

Nancy,
Here is the first part of a song that I grew up with.. That would apply to my interpatation.

Zegnal Goral swa Gora;kem, gdy szedt na swiat daleki
Bywaj zdrowa moja luba bo ja koham cie na wieki
To ja powrucem krudkem czasu,do domu do siolA
I ja cie Luba odproprawim na slub do Kosciola

Ten Goral miaj MACIOLA sercu

Translated

There was the Mountaineer that blessed his honey before leaving on a trip very far away
He told her to stay healyhy, because he loved her forever.
He told her that when he returns in a short time that he will take her to a church and marry her

Here is where you come in..
A na trzecy rok to goral wraca, on ma ( Maciola sercu ) After three years he returned with lonleness in his heart.

This is a beautiful song.. In the end she marries another guy.
Someday I will write the whole song in Polish for you

Blazej, I;ll bet that you never heard this one

I never heard this one <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
but I think that Nancy was right about deriving Maciolek from the first name Maciej.
About this song I think, that you wrote in in wrong way, but I couldn't tell you what shoud be instead of Maciola. This word could also be an archaism. So it is hard to tell...

Dziekuje!

I have already found locations in Poland with this name, but wondered if you knew the meaning or root for the name?

Dee,
Good girl..Use your Polish at every oppertunity, thats what I do.. You will be surprised how fast your Polish returns to you.. Mine has improved by 50%.. Although I do not understand each individual word.. I understand when it is put in form of a sentence.
I too looked for the American version of your name.. But had no luck.
As far as the Polish type.. Look at Blazej's type.. It is standard English.. Of all the people that I come in contact with from Poland.. They all use standard english type .
Dee, try singing songs that you remember from your childhood.. That is my greatest help.

Naokolo miasteczka, szla tam m loda drzewczyna
Hej, pienkna byla ,pienkna jak laleczka
Ale byla dla moda
Hej, hej, Kawalerowie nie zawraczace drzewczyne glowie
Nancy
All around town there walked this pretty young girl
She was as pretty as can be.. But she was too young
Sooo , hey all all of Polish dudes, do not try playing with her head ( Because she is too young )
