Hey Lynn!
I've got a small hair problem!! I sometimes get small sores on my scalp and then as they start getting better, small chunks of my hair comes out!! I end up with these small but noticlble bald spots on the top back of my head. I haven't colored my hair in over a year and I don't use harsh shampoo or conditioner. I also don't blowdry my hair but maybe twice a week. Do you have any answers or advice for me? I'm not stressed either... eek

This is a total and complete guess, but the same *exact* thing happens to my cat when she gets flea bite dermatitis, i.e. skin allergies. What you describe is exactly what happens to her--and I know humans and cats are different, but, both are susceptible to skin allergens. Have you changed your diet--introduced new foods? New detergent, new shampoo or soap, new hair products? Something new in your environment like air freshener that might produce something you're allergic to in the air you're exposed to frequently? Or maybe new sheets / pillow cases that haven't yet been washed and may have carried something in from the store/factory?

Sorry I didn't get right to you Jenna. My computer locked up yesterday and I just got it working. (Actually I didn't ever find out the problem but it's working now)

It sound to me like it could be some sort of allergin, however I would see a doctor about it right away. Especially if you happen to have a sore that he can see now. Since it sounds like the hair does not grow back in, you will want to know a doctor's opinion soon.
You may also want to consult a dermatologist.

Thanx for all the good advice and guesses. I really appreciate them. This started about 3 years ago and has gotten worse over the years. I have been tested for allergies and am allergy free, believe itor not, and i use the same type of sheets and pillow cases for years. (All cotten blend) I have asked about whether it could be related to using well water because it's not softened, but the answer is always the same, it doesn't happen to other people with well water so no one knows. My hair does eventually grow back, but it's CURLY! AHHH! If anyone can find an answer for me ...

Jenna,
The CURLY part probably comes from the way that your scalp heals.-- Scar tissue and clogging of the hair folicle. I would think that it would eventually go back to normal. You could try using a shampoo designed to help prevent hair loss. It probably won't PREVENT the problem but will help the hair return to normal. The shampoo, such as Nioxin, deep cleanses and helps to keep the folicles clear for normal growth.
