Text ads is a brilliant idea. Definitely post those too!

It's funny, I don't think of banner ads at the top of a page as abnormal at all. Just about every site I go to has one there, and most ad agencies will not let you put a banner ad up if it's below that top fold. So they can't be placed lower ... I do agree that the trick has to be *as few ads* as possible, but those ads should be well placed and very targeted. If you have lots of bad ads you annoy users, but if you have just 3 or 4 perfect ads, spaced far from each other, your users actually think of them as resources.

Okay...maybe I typed too soon! eek There are a few sites...Bella included...that I don't get that vibe from. But these are sites that I visit very often and I guess I barely see the banners on them anymore.

You make a good point Lisa. I don't think I would think twice about the ads if they "tie-in" to the site I'm visiting.

The ones that kinda bother me are the ones that are there flashing and have nothing to do with the site that I'm visiting. They seem to be kind of annoying.

Text ads are a great idea also.

Yes, whenever I see a flashing ad I call our ad agency and have them remove it We do have a few clients that advertise on specific sites and it does PHENOMONALLY for them.

We have an on line course company on the Distance Learning site and their clickthrough rate on the ad is **over 10%** which is pretty unheard of in the advertising world. It's because people don't look at it and think "ad" - they look at it and think "Ooooo! I want that!"

WOW **over 10%** is really good. I hope someone posts that they run a site that would be a good cross with one of my sites....I'd like to try a banner exchange.

Any site can probably be a great cross for any other site, it's a matter of figuring out the angle at which to approach it from If you had a lot of expert mystery shoppers lined up that all specialized in crafts and fabrics, you could land a contract with a craft/fabric chain, which would make all those craft/fabric lovers very happy

hmmmm...that is very true! I want to work on my site advertising more. I try to advertise all of them but sometimes it can be overwhelming....

I'd LOVE some suggestions for my MTDShoppers.com website...all of you have such great ideas.

Lisa, I really like your enjoyma.com website. What made you decide to create a website dedicated to your state?

Hi everyone, I don't have a commercial site but my personal site is at www.craftsnlace.co.uk

Re cross linking - great idea. Kim, the tatters are always on the lookout for storage items - will take a look at your quilting blocks site, maybe we could get together on something there because they love any sort of small bag or pocket in which they can put their bits and pieces, it's a very hot topic on the tatting lists. If anyone else thinks of something in that line please let me know! They are really interested in small bags and pockets, also tins of all kinds - Altoid tins, Smarties tubes (great for needles), etc, anything you can think of.

I'm the new host of the Spinning site. I don't really understand what everyone is talking about concerning how to set up your site with affiliate programs and such. I'm still learning how to put articles on my site! I'm putting up my third article and getting my links together, what else should I be thinking about doing??
