Many people think that if they build a website, people will naturally come. This is just not true. Link Popularity is becoming an essential type of site promotion. Is anyone else doing this on their website? I just started a favorite links section on my website to help increase my link popularity on the web.

I've had good luck with links sections, both on my personal site and ones I have worked on professionally.

Having a mutual link exchanged does the most for your relevancy.

Official link trick for Yahoo: If you can exchange links with a site that IS included in the Yahoo index, and your site IS NOT in the index, you will get added to Yahoo the next time they refresh. Note you will have to have reciprocal links with the included site for this to work.

Thank you for your post! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> That's a GREAT trick for Yahoo! Many people think that the only way into Yahoo is thru their express submission ($229/yr). There are definately ways around paying this fee.

With the purchase of Inktomi on Yahoo's side, they are going to become bigger and even more dominating in the search engine market. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have a friend who works at Inktomi, now Yahoo, who actually tends their search robots. One of his main jobs is to eliminate porn-related spam, like when you type "tennis shoes" and then get girlie pop-up pages.

I also got good results from having people use the subdomain URL, i.e.bodyart.bellaonline.com They seem much easier for people to remember and type correctly.

The number one way that people find my personal web site is Google, but the #2 way is now bodyart.bellaonline.com and the #3 is www.bellaonline.com/site/bodyart When you add the referrals together, I'm getting way more references from BellaOnline than Google!

You know that is true! A HUGE majority of my link popularity for ma Virtual Assistance site comes from Bella.

I just found out about the subdomain recently and I'm going to start using it more.
