Well, the time has come to decide what to do for the July swap. How about a twist on the birthstone of the month? I've seen swaps that concentrated each month on sending fabric that correlated to the birthstone for that month, but how about we all send in fabrics based on our birthstone? Mine is blue topaz, so I would be sending brilliant aqua blues. Mom's is diamond, so I guess she would be sending whites. This would be a huge chore for her, finding whites that she liked. Here's a list of months and birthstones:

January-Garnet

February-Amethyst

March-Aquamarine

April-Diamond, White Sapphire

May-Emerald

June-Pearl, Alexandrite

July-Ruby

August-Peridot

September-Sapphire

October-Opal, Tourmaline, Pink Sapphire

November-Topaz, Citrine

December-Turquoise, Zircon

Not sure what color a particular stone is? Just ask! I think this one could be fun. And yes, Michelle, easy! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I guess I'll have to go shopping for diamonds then. At least this is the kind I can afford. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

BTW, I like your idea.

Cool! I'm so glad that you like it, and that you're going to join in. I can't wait to see your diamonds. I have a beautiful London blue topaz ring that I bought when I was working at a jewelry store, and that deep aqua blue is what I'm going to be on the look out for.

If anyone wants a good idea of what to make using their swap fabrics, how about a Jewel Box quilt? Check out the links at the bottom of the page. Dorothy's quilt was made almost entirely from swap fabrics. This is a great quilt for using up little scraps and fat quarters.

Hi, its me! Y'know Laura, I went ahead and bought some fabric for the June swap...thinking, I'll get this one out. But alas! I didn't. So, now I have two fabrics that I bought for swaps and unsure what to do with them. If you ever have a "mismatch swap" let me know!

How's everyone doing? I like July's swap idea, but I don't want to commit. We're on vacation next week and Becca starts her school year when we get back. Oh well...

Kathy, send them anyway. Jean didn't get her June fabrics sent, and I know Mom is bringing some this week for June, so I'll just swap it all late. I'll tell Jean to send hers along and we'll get it done, just a little bit late. That's just how this swap has gone, isn't it? What is the other one you have? Black and whites? Send those too. I have plenty of my own and Jean's that I could send back to you. Don't even bother to cut it up, just send it and I'll take care of it. One thing fewer to take care of before your vacation.

What would your birthstone be?

Oh, that would be wonderful! Well, send them if you can. You know how much fun it is to get that squishie back in the mail. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Laura, I was thinking about the swap. If your mom is going to do diamonds, maybe I should do a different stone color so there is variety. What do you think? Also, have you swapped the black/whites yet? If your going to wait to send those out at the end of the month, I might jump in on that too.

I sure miss the old days when this forum was jumping with ideas and chit chat. Is anyone sewing or is it too hot for everyone?

Michelle, I have not swapped the black and whites yet, so you could send those at the end of the month no problem. I just got Jean's browns the other day and I'm going to swap hers out with mine and my mom's. So I'll have some browns, too, if you'd like. I don't think Mom is going to send for the July swap, so if you send diamonds it will be the only one.

I've been so busy getting our house in order I haven't had time for sewing or chatting. I'm at the end of the Lord of the Rings swap, so there is some last-minute babysitting to do there as well as finishing my blocks. I'll be posting pictures of the swap as soon as I can , probably late August.

Ooh, ooh <<<waving hand frantically>>>

I know it is late notice, but I am wondering if I could get in on this swap - I love the idea of all of the different jewel colors. I wish I had been able to drop into the forum earlier in the month - I would have written up a feature on the quilting site to try and drum up more participation. The birthstone idea is so neat.

I think the birthstone idea is a great one. Unfortunately, no one participated this month. I think I'll stop with the monthly swap for now. I will start it up again in a few months, when we all have a little more time and money, and I'll try the birthstone thing again. I'll be sure to let you know so you can link from the homepage.

That's fine. It sounds like people are busy with summer activities so it may do better in the fall. When you are ready to try again, I will write up a short feature for the main page.

Thanks Laura!
