How do you celebrate anniversaries?

People in our family have a funny habit of associating their weddings with holidays. For example, I got married on St. Patrick's Day (by a justice-of-the-peace in a green suit, but that's another story). My son and daughter-in-law got married on Valentine's Day. This makes an anniversary easy to plan - they already have a built-in theme. The added benefit is that they're also easy to remember. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

A long time ago, we decided to skip the gifts and spend the money on an outing. We take the entire day without children and do something together. My son's birthday is two days before our anniversary and my mother-in-law's birthday is the day after. Often Thanksgiving falls on the same week. With so much going on, we usually wait until early December. The day isn't that important to us-we just like to have that time alone to be glad we're married.
