I find that a mixture of baking powder and lukewarm wonder is great for countertops, for getting out any stains that might be on there. If it's a nasty stain I let a lump of the mixture sit on the stain for a little while and then scrub.
For general cleaning of counters and table/chairs I use 1/2 white vinegar in 1/2 water in a spray bottle. Vinegar is a natural deodorizer also. The baking soda does work well for stains, and garbage disposals.
Oh I forgot the Mr. Clean Eraser works wonders also. Especially on stains, walls, baseboards, doors etc.

I use microfiber cloths to clean my counters. It skeeves me out to use chemicals all over my counter and then prepare food on it. It can't be healthy. With microfiber all you need is water to clean with. They remove something like 98% of dirt, germs and bacteria without any cleanser. It's the unique weave of the fibers that makes them clean so well. I love them because they work great and make cleaning so easy. I got some really good ones at simplygoodstuff.com. Check it out for yourself.
I love baking soda on my countertops too. In fact, I keep my sponge in a dish of baking soda, it keeps it from stinking and it is a gentle scrub on the dishes.
I generally spritz it with a water/tea tree oil formula first to kill the germies.
