There is one thing that comes up over and over in several different
walkthroughs for FFX that I don't understand:

Usually written like this: "Make sure your character's and aeon's
overdrive gauges are full."

Now what are they trying to tell me here? What, do they want me to
waste my time fighting numerous battles just to get the gauges up?
Because it seems to me that is what they are talking about.
Maybe there is another way to do it but I sure do not know how.

Second question, just a quickie, does anyone know what the most
effective mode is to make the overdrive gauges load up faster
(fastest)?

And for the third and final question:
What black magic can I cast upon each aeon to heal themselves if they
have not learned cure.
If you could please answer it like this (I'll put the magic that I
know next to the aeon that corrosponds to it:

Valefor: ?
Ifrit: Fire
Ixion: lightning
Shiva: blizzard/ice
Bahamut: ?

And if you're going to tell me to learn cure don't waste your time,
unfortunatley I don't have the items to have them learn that, so I am
resorting to black magic.

Thanks in advance!

Lol, you can also do this either in 1 battle or as you go along in the game. When I played FFX most of the time I walked around with the gauges filled just in case I needed an overdrive, the fastest way to fill these gauges depends on the overdrive mode you have selected for that particular character (ie comrade, loner etc). Usually comrade is one of the faster ones, but if you're up against really weak fiends you're probably better off with slayer.

I don't think you can heal Valefor or Bahamut with Black Elemental Magic, since they are both non-elemental Aeons.

Well... kind of, my dear... It depends how far you are in the game as well (ie which overdrive modes you have, if you have entrust ability and stuff like that). But don't worry. It doesn't take too much and it can be fun.

[qb]

Use Overdrive mode slayer and go to Besaid. Kill 6 few fiends with each char in that mode.

If you don't have that overdrive mode use stoic and hurt the char badly then heal (good for Yuna).

For Aeons, have them fighting Belgemine Aeons in Remiem Temple and then dismiss. Beware, if they die they lose the overdrive.

Otherwise have few fights with strong fiends using only the Aeons. When the gauge is full, dismiss.

[qb]And for the third and final question:

The ones you said. Valefor and Bahamut need to learn cure. 99 Hi potions do the job, and you can buy them. So don't worry, use them.

Thank you!

Now I am hoplessly stuck on Seymour with his Mortibody... and I am mad because I guess I used the white magic sphere...

I don't have slayer yet... but I can't upgrade my char's anymore since I just upgraded them... it didn't make them much better either.

Sometimes this game really gets to me LoL.

but thank you to everyone who replied

for fast OD Charging it all depends on what weapons you have. If you have douple or triple OD then its obviuosly a good thing.

When preparing for a big battle use Slayer or Victor. They charge up 1/5th (3/5ths if you have triple OD in your weapon) so its only 5 battles to charge up your characters OD

and for the aeons' best curing abilities:

Valefor: Cure/a/aga (60 x-potions)
Ifrit: Fire/a/ga
Shiva: Blizzard/a/ga
Ixion: Thunder/a/ga
Bahamut: Cure/a/ga
Anima: Cure/a/ga
Yojimbo: can't restore HP
Magus Sisters: Curaga Auto-Life Life Full Life

Ohh. I see. Unfortunatly I don't have those weapons, the most recent weapons I have obtained (after defeating Evrae Altana (sp?)) is the Avenger and Rematch.

You don't have slayer?? Not for a single character? That's odd. Well, use stoic or comrade overdrive mode, then and simply fight your battles.

I'm trying... but Seymour is really hard and for some reason all my characters seem to suck... I got him to the point where his Mortibody was only absorbing 3,000 HP from Seymour, but then he started using "Break" (petrification) and at that time I had nothing that was stoneproof, and now that I customized certain weapons to have stoneproof (most likeley probably using up valuable items) I can't even get that far in the battle.
I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should just give up... meh.

One can never have stoneproof on a weapon, only stonetouch/stonestrike. To get stoneproof/stone ward you will have to customize an armor.

Ability: Stone Ward
Effect: Occasionally protects against petrification.
Requires: Soft x30

Ability: Stoneproof
Effect: Always protects against petrification.
Requires: Petrify Grenade x20

To beat Seymour you should haste your characters and when Mortibody casts a spell make sure if u get a turn in that u use the proper defense spell (ie nullblaze for fire, nullfrost for blizzard etc). Because Seymour will always copy Mortibody's spell, only Seymour's is stronger.

Noooo!!! never give up! Are you crazy? You would throw away one of the best games for PS2 ever. eek

Listen, I had problems as well with those two bas**rds, even at my third game, but they are beatable. Do this:

Go back and buy many softs. Have stoneward customized armours for everybody. Buy again up to 99 softs (better be safe then sorry).

As a starting party have Wakka, Tidus and Yuna. Tidus should know at least haste. Not sure about hastega. Use Tidus for haste/ga, Yuna for healing, Wakka for shooting. Have Yuna casting protect and maybe shell to Wakka (the stronger character). Otherwise have Kimari using Mighty Guard overdrive if you lancet it when fighting the two Ronso. Keep sure At least Wakka has near full health. You will need it further, when you get attacked by missiles. If hit by petrify use soft ASAP. Use all the overdrives you get. Don't bother to summon an Aeon without the overdrive, you waste it. Use overdrive mode comrade. That should help you doing the job.

If you get Wakka with protect and full health killed by the missiles (and so the whole party), I am afraid that you have to go back and fight fiends to level up. Otherwise you should have already plenty of megapotions (2000HP to each char). Use them. it is better to waste them and go forward then to be stuck dieing. You may also choose to use one or two megaphoenix to revive two chars with full health in a shot. You will get more megaphoenix later.

But don't let it put you down! This game is magic. You will be surprised how at the end (with our help as well ) you can even reach the point to beat the strongest bosses ever, becoming an FF Goddess. It is always a matter of getting stronger. Therefore if you really are desperate, spend few hours walking and fighting around. You will refine your personal fighting skills and level up your chars. Then go back and your chances of winning will be much higher. But don't give up!

Thank you so much. I will try this. I do have a lot of hi-potions (O'aka does not sell mega-potions and I have none! ) Unfotunaltey I have stoneproof for only Yuna, but I do have a lot of Softs, the only problem is sometimes I can't use it! And whever I fight those two big machines that sometimes use "Thrust Kick" they do it untill they kill my whole party, even if they're not the only enemy left standing.

What should I do is Seymour casts flare? It always kills me, and if it doesn't Mortibody somehow gets another turn (even though it didn't say so in the chart) and he kills me.

Sorry I'm writing so much, but I thought I'd explain my situation, so here I go writing again. (And sorry if I switch topics, I tend to do that
0.o)

Anyway, I made stone proof things for Kimahri, Auron (he is actually my strongest char right now, although his power/magic break is usleless in this fight), and I think Tidus, I will check my game and give you a more accurate account tomorrow probably, since I am unsure who has it and who doesn't.
About Stoneproof, Djenin said that you need to use Petrify grenade x20, but I have never even seen/heard about those.

I'd have to say one of the main problems is that right after Moribody casts a spell Seymour gets the turn right after him so I cannot protect myself against his attacks.
And when Seymour casts "break" Mortibody instantly gets the turn after, and uses "shattering claw" to break everyone but Yuna into pieces. I use soft everytime someone is petrified but in the end it never seems to matter, Mortibody and Seymour kill them anyway, and then Yuna is not a very strong char right now so without help she dies instantly.

Okaay, so, sorry for all of that, it's just, you guys give me some hope that maybe I can finish the game someday, because I totally love the game, it's awesome! It's just hard.

Thank you so much, I will give you the stats for my char's tomorrow, when I get the chance to play it

Love  ,
Teena

p.s. I haven't fought the two Ronso, I think that might be after?

petrify grenades you have to steal. It's from Basilisk, which are either in CAlm Lands or Mushroom Rock Road.

I forgot to tell you. Don't go for Seymour! Always hit Mortibody, at least until he (it?) has only 1000HP. Once you drop all Mortibody HP you get one safe shot that you can use to hit Seymour as well.

Flare can kill only ONE character. So, what's the problem? Buy 99 phoenix (and softs). Always buy as many items as you can once you have the money. If you don't have enough money sell weapons. Most of them you never use anyhow.

Also, you look pretty new at the game. I suggest you to spend few hours going around fighting fiends. Since you are doing that I would suggest as well to go to calm lands and by the weapons with capture abilities from the Arena gramps. Always have Rikku doing a round stealing from each enemy. She gets AP as well. That's why the character switch thingy is good to have in FFX. Personally I try to switch to all characters in every fights, so they all level up.

Oh, oh... What a shame. I confused the fight...

You are in Bevelle, right? I thougt you were somewhere else (I don't want to spoil it saying where). Forget about everything I said, most of it applies to another one. This one if I remember correctly needs a lot of haste, reflect/dispel and shell. And stoneward at least, that's for sure. Talking about petrify, I just remember that it is a matter of luck as well. Shattering Claw doesn't necessarely hits the petrified character.

Anyhow, to be forgiven, I discovered a trick in case you really get desperate: poison Seymour and do nothing else but healing. Do NOT attack. In 25 rounds he will be gone.

So, here are the characters who have stone stuff customized to them:

Lulu - Soft Bangle (stone-ward)
Auron - Soft Bracer (stone-ward)
Yuna - Soft Ring (stone-proof)
Wakka - Soft Armguard (stone-ward)

Yuna is the only one with something that is stoneproof and the others have nothing. I only have 32 Gil left from buying so many Hi-Potions and Softs and such.
I would like to level up my characters more and get some more useful items but whenever I fight the machines I die. Sometimes in the beginning I don't even get a turn, they somehow get 6 turns right away and kill my party. So usually I use Tidus to flee. Also, there is another problem, I cannot get out of the place I am in untill I beat Seymour which really sucks.
So fighting feinds will be really hard since they usually kill me...
Deflect/Dispell/something... I don't have those... wow... maybe I should start the game over or something? It seems like for some reason I missed a lot of things and it also seems I should be more powerfull than I am... Ahh, I'm confused! :'(

Today I finally got Mortibody to where he is only absorbing 1,000 HP from Seymour, but even when I use the overdrive for Yuna it still seems to do nothing to either of them... and then he uses Flare and kills my party (which usually consists of only 2 members because no matter what I do one of them gets prtrified and broken up into pieces, even when I use Soft ASAP...).

I know this is all repitition, and I'm sorry, I'm just trying to show my weaknessess and such... because maybe that way you'll be able to help me better.

Oops, I forgot to add, unfortunatley I think the Seymour that I am fighting is not only ammune to Poison, but after a while Mortibody starts healing Seymour (I think).

This is the fight after Via Purifico, right? How did you survive Evrae in the water? I am confused. Anyhow, the trick is that the enemy's attacks change depending on the HP of Seymour. If you have Yuna with StoneProof keep her in the party. Then have Wakka and Auron (stoneward). Or maybe Lulu, she can escape some attacks better then the others. You may start using Tidus, Wakka, and Auron. Just have Tidus hasting at least the last two and switch him to Yuna. Your chances for being petrify and then shattered will be much lower. Once you start to get "flared" use phoenix down. And yes, waste all your rounds healing/soft if necessary, shooting only when you feel you have enough HP. It will take a much longer time but it takes less than dieing and starting again.

About poison: I read it in a very good faq. It usually doesn't have mistakes. Be sure you try to poison Seymour, not Mortibody. It may get confusing. Also, if I remember right, once Mortibody starts to heal Seymour, you are near the end of it. Keep yourself calm and you'll do it.

For levelling up... I am not sure if you can move out of highbridge at that point (Kimari is supposed to be there guarding Seymour). But if the machines keep kicking you, I am very much afraid you have a low level. I destroyed them with easy. You might make a weapon with initiative for Tidus and flee (have Tidus in the inital party), get out og Highbridge and go to level up.

Restarting all over is a possible option, but you are at a good point already, I personally wouldn't do it. What I would do (as a matter of principle as well) is to spend my time winning THAT battle (you have a good challenge, don't waste it), and then, instead of going on with the storyline, have many fights switching all characters, stealing items with Rikku and levelling up. Also check if Rikku has any special item for reflect (to cast on Seymour once Mortibody starts healing him).

Wooo! I beat him! I got Slayer for Auron and Loner for Lulu. I leveled up some more in the Calm Lands since a lot of their fiends seemed easier... I feel bad that I keep asking for help... it seems I am now constantly getting stuck on the bosses now.
Maybe I should just ask for a tutorial LoL.

But, if it's not to much to ask... I was wondering... how do you beat that stone creature (boss) after that guy and the guado say Seymour is asking for the party?

Sorry for all the questions :x

I have no idea of which boss you are talking about, now.

But I am pretty sure he is not that hard at all. So beat him as a home duty, now.

Hehehe I did, I bet him, now I am past the Calm Lands to Mount. Gazaget (sp?) I beat Biran and Yenke (hehe that's a funny name), and I was supprised how easy they were. Unfortunalty I just read part of the walkthrough to make sure I did everything right, and I guess I missed a secret Aeon in the Calm Lands named Yojimbo or something... I'm hopeing I can get him later or something.
Sooo now I am in the process of trying to find my way around Mt. Gagazette (again sp?) LoL. I recently died by some machines after I was doing pretty well too, oh well.

I hate how I learn that I miss things and then can't go back to get them! Ahh so annoying!
That's why I need a new printer badly... mine broke awhile ago, almost been a year! Hopefully I will be getting a new one soon though.

Aaaanyway, I do have a question, the Aeons "Anima" (Seymour has him) and "The Magus Sisters" are they secret aeons or do you obtain them over a period of time?

Do you mind if I update you on my progress and such?

Well... let me put in this way.

1. Throw away NOW the walkthough. It is your first game ever, you are supposed to miss many things. But not the fun. Using walkthroughs all times you spoil it. Follow the storyline, enjoy it and don't bother. One day you will get the airship and then you can go back wherever you like (and other places as well, sure).

2. Yojimbo: you did not miss it really. Even if you tried to go for him you would had been warned that you had something more important to do. Not only that, do you think he comes for free? Some fiends would crash you so badly that you would really regret you just tried. Even if you were lucky to reach the point to get him, you would discover that... you simply couldn't because you miss something in a very big quantity. See 1.

3. Anima and Magus Sisters. Haha! And you believe is there any chance the game would let to get them NOW? Forget it.

4. Feel free to ask if you REALLY are in trouble. But only after you followed the rule 1. It is YOUR story, after all.

I do where you are coming from when you say it ruins the fun. And that is usually why I don't use them. On occasion I do, and usually these include:
 • I'm really stuck on a certain spot,
 • I'm really lazy,
 • Or, I have finished the game and would like to see/get all the things I missed the first time around.

Usually those are the only reasons I ever use a walkthrough.

The reason for me asking and wanting to get those 2 secret aeons (Anima, Magus Sisters) is because I thought you needed them for the rest of the game.

Anyway, I guess I'll be my usual self and ask yet another quiestion that I hope you can answer.

I seem to be having trouble beating Seymour Flux. Although upgraded Yuna seems to still be pretty weak, especially in HP, she only has around one thousand something HP.
I know all my characters need serious leveling up because while climbing Mt. Gagazete I fled most of the fights and decided I'd wait to fight untill I found a save sphere, and I did this for two reasons,
 • I had absolutley no desire whatsoever to hear those Ronsos singing for the millionth time
 • and, I kept dying in what is supposed to be "simple" feind fights.

Therefore they need a lot of leveling up. The only problem is, is that it's quite hard to level up when you need to end up fleeing because you are getting demolished in the battle.

So, to make this already long post "short", do you think you could give me some tips on the fiends there, and could you give me some tips on how to beat Seymour. I read on the walkthrough that Yuna needs to know reflect, but my Yuna doesn't... does this mean I need to level up until she learns it or is there some way to defeat Seymour and live without knowing it?

Also, the "Cross Cleave" thing he does... is it supposed to kill my whole d*mn party?

Thank you! I appreciate it more than you know.

My... my... my... (I just *love* that Dona's line). And you call yourself a summoner?

How can you level up if you flee the simple fiends? 1000 HP for Yuna facing S. Flux? I think I had more then 2000 and still I had problems (but Yuna is not really necessary, though).

The fiends in Mt. Gagazet. Here is the trick I used just to be safe: After EACH fight go to the menu, choose abilities, select Yuna and then cura. Use it to give full health to all your characters (but do not waste MP to heal just a couple hundreds HP: Use potions as well). I had only the red dragons (or what they are called) giving me troubles after many easy fights. If I was embushed... goodnight. Obviously, weaker you are (and you are weak!) harder it is to fight them. Don't worry about hearing that song again. You already saved in the top of the mountain. Around there, where there are the crosses taking you to the water, you should have enabled the teleports. Use them to go back to to beginning of Mt. Gagazet and start again. You will get good AP starting with easier fiends. But try not to flee if possible!!! And try to use to all characters at least once to give them APs other then to have Rikku stealing as crazy. AP are not splitted, the total given by all killed fiends is added to each character that did at least one action, even if useless (like Yuna's pray having full health). Level up and face S. Flux. Do you get easily killed? Repeat again the whole process in Mt. Gagazet, or maybe just stay around the save point in the Cavern, where the fiends are stronger so they give more APs and probably more useful stuff (items and weapons/armors). Use all magic you want and after the battle touch the savesphere (and save, just in case). All HP/MP are restored. Do it now, because later it will be even harder as it is obvious. Every area has its own fiends with a level range you must at least match and then the boss. And trust me, you do not want to talk to a beautiful sexy lady in Zanarkand with [censored] stats.

I see. I will try that, and thank you very much for your help.

It actually got easier, but then I died after fighting like, 20 battles and leveling up the characters pretty good, and that sucked, so I thought I'd take a break for awhile then go back and do it again, otherwise I'd get really frustrated LoL.

Thank you again, we will see what happens!

Yeah, I know what you mean. It happened few times to me as well in Mt. Gagazet.

Yes, go out, smell the roses! it is still summer after all! I didn't touch my PS2 in one week, now. The weather is too nice to waste it.

Been awhile.

I'm still fighting Seymour Flux and that Mortichis or whatever... but I've updated my characters signifigantly.

Lulu now knows "Bio"
Wakka just learned the mode "Tactic" or whatever it is, I can't remember the name. It has to do when the gauge fills if a status ailment successes.
Kimahri knows "Hasteaga",
Yuna knows "Dispel".

I still can't beat him. All of my char's overdrives are full, and so are all of the aeons except Ixion, who i can always Grand Summon...

I still can't beat the guy...

Off Topic:
I'm moving in less than 7 days... it's no fun... I am now getting depressed.

Okay sorry, I'm rambling... I'll shut up now.

Try this:

http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/final_fantasy_x_eu.txt

and look for S. Flux. It has all possible details about that battle (which is defined by many people as one of the hardest, if not the hardest in the storyline).

Sorry about your moving home.
