Pick as many as you like, or add to this post with what I forgot! smile
I buy most things at Macy's Department Store and other things at Meijer's Store when I pick up my groceries (like mascara).

Most of my makeup is from Sephora, as they have almost everything i love, and then the rest comes form Paula's Choice, an online shop.

Man, I LOVE shopping in sephora. It's like a candy store. And the free samples make it all worthwhile. I am all about the free.

THEY HAVE THE BASIC MAKEUP BRANDS SUCH AS COVER GIRL, JANE ETC. BUT THEY ALSO HAVE DEPT. STORE BRANDS. THEY WILL MARK DOWN ITEMS FOR CLEARANCE TOO. I WAS IN SEPHORA ONCE BUT I DID NOT HAVE MUCH $ AT THE TIME. IT IS LIKE A CANDY STORE. I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT THAT STORE AGAIN WITH SOME $! I LOVE MAKEUP ALOT! JUDY K. CHICAGO.

If anybody out there is doing the crushing the insects thing, I'd love to hear their stories!

I love Avon makeup and actually used to sell it. Now I get it online. Otherwise I use organic make up from Miessence.

I get mine at the drugstore.
Posted By: Jilly Re: Where do you buy your Makeup? (POLL) - 07/06/08 09:27 PM
Heehee, I was waiting for someone to comment on the bug paste thing... laugh
I get most of mine from Ulta, it is a store very similar to Sephora.

I also have a cousin who sells Avon.

And then i'll pick up the occasional thing that catches my eye (that impulse buy) at Walmart or Eckerds or someplace.

But Ulta was a lifesaver when my daughter shaved her eyebrows off. They have makeup artists there that help you figure out ewhat you need - and that woman was wonderful in helping us find something that looked semi-natursal until her brows grew back in.

I crush bugs. Unfortunately, I can only get black from them...or red. Red doesn't work so well for eye liner, but it's a great rouge or lipstick. I'd scrape them off my windshield, but...that's more work than I need and you lose most of the color, anyway.

I am, of course, totally kidding.

I sell Mary Kay, so...that's what I use.

And its unfortunate that the bugs with the really lovely and bright colors are all the ones that are endangered species- so we're really not supposed to squish them up anyway. Sigh...The govt makes these things so hard. crazy

You know, I have never had a mary kay lady come to me, nor have I seen a catalogue. But yet I see Avon catalogues all over town. How different are these two companies?
Not that I don't wholeheartedly endorse the bug crushing approach (because I do!), but I get mine from beauty consultants who come to my home. I started it when my sister had, as part of her wedding, a lady who came out and did my sisters' and mom's makeup. Kind of like the makeover counters at the mall. She had tons of samples and I got completely hooked. Now I'm making my way through the local list athttp://www.gatheringguide.com/ec/health_beauty.html for each special occasion I need to dress up for. It's too easy smile

I buy my cosmetics from a Mary Kay Consultant, ME
Several years ago I decided to make my own soap and began doing research about ingredients, how to go about it, etc. After learning about the chemicals that go into "soap" you buy, I vowed that I would keep making my all natural soaps because I didn't want my family, especially the grandchildren, putting all those chemicals into their bodies.

Then I began making all natural lotions, deodorant, shampoo and several products for various friends with troubled skin. The whole thing has absolutely exploded and now I also make mineral makeup.

This isn't a commercial for my products. Rather, it is a plea for everyone to become aware of what they are putting into their bodies through their skin.

The things which are not good for you that you put onto your skin every day would astound you if you became aware of them. And the price of the product usually has no bearing on the problem ingredients in them.

Please do the research - look for ingredients which end in "paraben". There are many, such as methylparaben, butylparaben, propylparaben and on and on. Parabens are a petroleum product. They are preservatives, but the American Cancer Society has said they are carcinogens & the government says they are a suspected carcinogen. Not going on my body!

And these preservatives are even in mineral makeup - including most of the "as seen on TV" brands and brands we have known all our lives. Just check the labels. They will usually be toward the end, but they are there.

I also won't use or make anything with aluminum - used in antiperspirants. Aluminum clogs your pores and is being found in the tissue of women who have breast cancer and in the brain tissue of people who have died with Alzheimers Disease.

Most commercial lip balms contain alcohol and will make your lips feel dry after about 30 minutes so you have to put more on. To say nothing of the actual drying effect on your lips. Why not just use one that is all natural and doesn't contain alcohol? Check the label and you will see.

There is a website you can check out if you would like to know about any ingredients or products you use. It rates both of them on a numerical scale so you can learn what the risks are. It is called Skin Deep and the link is:BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. If you don't know how to do UBB code just post here for help - we will help out!
I have to admit - I do the Mary Kay thing, too. I got in at $100 for the kit to get things at half price. I just never need the minimum $200 wholesale ($400 retail), so I have a lot left over when I buy it.

People on ebay sometimes have MK for less than half. If you search the net - there is also a 50% off MK online store.

CHI now is offering a line of sulfate and paraben free organic products. I am so happy to see this happening!

Farouq is already amonia free which is good. The CHI color line is safe enough to even eat when mixed and to use on prego women. The CHI and BioSilk products aren't too bad either.
I have various favorites.

I like Great Lash Mascara

I like Estee Lauder foundation and blush

I like Merle Norman Powder (loose)

I don't care what kind of eyeshadow I use

I use Isadermix for washing and moisturizing

My Makeup I buy most at Drugstore
but I like Mary Kay products and Aveda.
I buy all my makeup at Long's drugstore. I do not wear any except lipstick and once in awhile some eye shadow. But, when I wore foundation, blush and the whole bit, I always went to Long's because they have a good variety and prices.

These days I really do almost all of my cosmetics buying online - I get my goodies from Sephora, Lush and Paula's Choice, all online.

And then there are the basics we also get from the drugstore (Rite Aid) - mostly the stuff for DH who doesn't need the expensive stuff I like, so his lotions, shampoos, soaps, etc. I also pickup my bug sprays and some body sunscreens from Rite Aid.

Lately I've been getting makeup from Avon because my mother always brings the magazines from work. I just got a container of some mineral foundation. Haven't tried it yet because I need one of those Kabuki brushes. The thing is so small yet it cost $5. Why doest it have to cost so much? I saw some at other stores and they were $6-$7.

Hello everyone,
I am new and have never signed up to a forum before. My husband is always on forums, so I thought I would give it a try.

I have been using mineral make up from afterglow.com for over a year. It is free of talc, fillers and fragrance.

Mari
Well, since I work in a Salon/Spa, I buy mineral makeup at the spa. It's mineral makeup and I love it. I don't think I will ever be able to wear anything else. It is like wearing nothing at all except that I look better.

I prefer Clinique over any other foundation/powder I have ever used. I have rosacea and it has been the best as far as hiding it. It does get pricey though. And I'd love more "natural" makeup, but anything I have tried from walmart or cvs just hasn't worked as well for me. I buy most of my lipsticks from AVON. And my mascara is just whatever is waterproof at walmart... couldn't tell you the brand, but I like it.

Hi Onm and welcome! Those buki brushes are nice b/c they are full. The short handle has no particular value except to look distinctive and exotic.

You can do just as well and probably better with a nice full powder or blush brush (with a handle for better control) from Sephora, Two Faced, Body Shop, Bare Minerals, Paula's Choice, Aveda or Origins.

You DO want a high quality brush. But be warned, they are all pricey. A good brush will last your lifetime if you care for it rightly, however, so it's an investment.

Welcome Mari! Forums are great ways to meet like minded people and start to form your own online community. I have met many people in person who I first met online and formed real friendships.

I like mineral makeups as well - so nice to use! I like the Bare Minerals since they have SPF 15 in them. So this way i look pretty AND prevent wrinkles. :-)

That's cool Lynne, that you get access to spa discounts! Yeah! I enjoy the mineral makeup too. It's more like a glow than a foundation. :-)

Hi Toddsgrrl! I really enjoy Clinique products as well - they are coming up with some very state-of-the-art facial products (with antioxidants, anti-irritants, cell-repairing ingredients).

They have really rejuvenated their makeup recently as well. Some of my absolute favorite lipsticks is in their line (Long Last Soft Shine Bamboo Pink - yummy!).

As far as 'natural' makeup, I'd suggest Bare Minerals, Bobby Brown's neutrals lines, Paula's Choice (great matte earthy colors), Aveda and Benefit.

Rosie, you are lucky - you only need to wear concealer! If you paired that with a moisturizing sunscreen, you will be both pretty AND protected. :-)

Yes, Lynee, very cool! I'm jealous. =) I too truly love the glow I get from mineral makeup. Personally I like Sun Cat and Sheercover best. I found this to be a great resource: sheercover
I am a great fan of Mac and I usually make purchases online. The online stores offer the expensive products at highly competitive price.
I have just recently become a MAC convert, LOL!

but because I am so new to their product, I still like going into a store soI can try products. Where I live, Macy's has the best line.

Once I get to know what works for me, I will probably switch to online ordering to help save money, though.
