Was that really only on for one year? It seemed like I watched that for quite a while, and got all wrapped up in my daydreams of my own story lines. I liked Apollo, my sis liked Starbuck. I seem to recall that in my daydreams something tragic had happened to Apollo's current girlfriend <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Yep, 17 episodes in all (although 2 of them were 2-parters) in the original series was all we were given!

There were also 6 episodes in the dismal Galactica 1980 series, but thankfully, that one didn't last. Can you tell I hated it???

There are novels based on the series, and they aren't bad, if that interests you, too. In fact, I'm planning a little Galactica wing to attach to my SF/Fantasy TV shop at Bella - should be up sometime next week!

Someime next year, you'll get a fresh dose of Galactica... here's a news brief from the SciFi Channel: "Battlestar Galactica. This four-hour miniseries re-imagines the classic '70s SF TV series. Ronald D. Moore (Roswell) wrote the script, with Breck Eisner (Taken) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the project will be executive produced by David Eick."

See? The old shows never really die!

I think I saw that news brief, which brought the whole show to mind <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I wonder why the series didn't last! I thought it was pretty popular at the time ...

Part of the challenge was the cost of special effects back in those days... I'm betting that the outrageous costs contributed to the short lifespan of the series.

Maybe they shoulda made their enemies more Dr Who like with cardboard bodies instead of ping-pong eyeballs that bounced back and forth <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Something I always liked about Battlestar Galactica is that they had women in strong roles - they actually went out into combat, as I recall. That's a bit different than Star Wars where the one woman hung out in the control room while all the menfolk flew their fighter ships ...

Yep, VERY strong women roles in Galactica, I always liked the balance there. They weren't tough old broads either, they were feminine, able to maintain relationships and also be fighters. Nice.

Remember the woman with the braids that always gave the 'launch when ready' command? Sarah Rush will always be known as that woman, and her own personal website calls her the "launch when ready woman from Battlestar Galactica". It's at http://www.sarahrush.com/

There's your trivia for the day. BTW, I have a TON of Galactica links at my site, and you can find them right here - http://www.bellaonline.com/subjects/1304.asp

She was affected by a virus from the food breaking down at a molecular level and that made her cells break down as well. Then just after Serina married Apollo and Apollo adopted Boxey as his own boy she was shot by a cylon. It was
one of the best and one of the saddest bsg eps I ever saw

Larson had so many restrictions placed on him by
the studios there was NO CHANCE whatsoever of
'that' series succeeding. The only good ep was
"The return of Starbuck" when he showed us a
taste of 'what could have been'.

Which is why I *HATED* this year's remake. They made Starbuck into a female who was very manly. I couldn't find anything to like about the character. Then, they took Colonel Tigh (one of my favorite characters) and made him into a nasty guy. Colonel Tigh was always a very upstanding fellow. Boomer was turned into a female (why!?!?). Athena, Apollo's sister, was nowhere to be found. Apollo and Adama hated each other. In the original series, the love between Apollo, Adama and Athena was one of the best parts. It was so nice to see a family that loved each other. And then, and then, and then...that scene on the bridge between Baltar and the Cylon chick (don't get me started on HER!) was horrible!!! I can just imagine a parent saying, "oh, look... a new Battlestar Galactica...nice wholesome fun for my child." And then the child gets to watch a sexy cylon giving Baltar digital manipulation. ARghghghghg!

I must say that the S-E-X has been rather startling in this series...if the female is not human does that mean it is OK, rather like National Geographic shows on TV in the old days of PBS? OK the guy is obsessed we GET it..I am not obsessed; so enuf already. I do not think it adds to the plot. I think adults should have shows to watch on TV the same as children; however, I do not think this can safely be marketed as child friendly which is too bad because the sex adds nothing to the plot nor are they are getting an equal bang for their buck (so to speak)

I read that this is the most expensive show on SciFi...too bad...they should have kept "Farscape"!

I agree, the sex is a bit much. Enough already. My husband use to love the old one. He's disappointed with this series.

I finally realized that the young woman who plays Starbuck is the one who played Richard Dreyfuss' daughter on his excellent TV series that lasted less than one season about three years ago...too bad; it was reallllly good....she has quite a singing voice.

Did you see the Season Finale? Yikes. Blew DH and I away.

Does anyone realize there are new BG shows on SciFi right now(well on Friday nights and scattered thru the week thereafter)

Who else is excited for the upcoming new season of BSG? I can't wait to see where they take the characters this year!

Is anybody watching the webisodes on the SCIFI website? they are pretty cool, it's called "The Resistance" and it's all about what is going on down on New Caprica, they release two a week up until the S3 premiere. So far I have seen Callie, Tyrol and Tigh in them, and they make me *very* excited to see where they are going with the whole "occupation" plot.

I love the webisodes. BSG is so creative and innovative -- I honestly can't guess what will happen next. At the end of last season, my husband and I were taking bets as to whether or not the season cliffhanger really happened or if it was just Baltar's nightmare.

I know!! I love this show so much. And the thing is, I love it because it's not just a cool space adventure show with cool special effects (which it is), but that it's also driven by really human and character based stories. It is the total package, for me.

I'm so curious to see what will happen to Baltar next season - I mean, he keeps screwing up, and humanity as a whole keeps...basically being massively punished for it. that has got to really mess with your head!

have you seen the season 3 trailer that's floating around on youtube? It's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkA7arfN92E

It is making me so excited! i can't wait for oct. 6th!!
Posted By: mikoniko Re: Battlestar Galactica - 09/25/06 08:57 PM
it's so dark and twisty and grungy, not all clean and smooth and bright like Star Trek. Took me a minute to get used to it but now I think I like it better than Atlantis.

eeeeeeee!! I can't wait til October!
Posted By: FashionFiend Re: Battlestar Galactica - 09/26/06 07:09 PM
I was sort of iffy when i started watching it, but man. All those critics like Rolling Stone that it was one of the best things on tv were just totally right, because it really is. I can't wait either!!

Everyone should poke around the SciFi website, as well. In addition to the webisodes there are all kinds of other goodies - trailers and podcasts and recaps. There's a recent interview with Grace Park that's pretty interesting, too.
