Hello Jilly,
I have been reading some of the posts here and I really enjoy your "theme" idea for your tanks ! Never really thought of doing something like that, but, I am just starting my journey into "fish junkie" status...only a matter of time now...haha.
I did leave a post for you...somewhere.. about our 5 bettas...I have been eyeballing a 36 gallon corner aquarium at PetSmart for the past 2 months now....went as far as to buy a Penquin 170 biowheel powerfilter for it online.(saved about 10 bucks, shipping included !) Don't have the tank yet but hey, gotta start somewhere!
We too are LOTR mega fans and I really do like your theme ideas. Do you have pictures posted anywhere of your tanks? I'd love to see them. You got me thinking about a possible theme for that 36er....hhmmm....Rivendell??
Right now I am learning via my daughter's 10 gal and the 5 amazing bettas we have now...before I get into something bigger. But I am definitly hooked...line and sinker included.
Thanks for this forum...it really is nice to share an interest with others who are just as dingy on the subject as you are. :rolling:
Look forward to your reply !

Hi Emg! I am working on getting up some pix of my tanks. So far we have Ithilien, Osgilliath, Fangorn Forest, Weatertop, Tol Brandir and the Shire. I am planning my 18 gallon tall tank as a Rivendell, but those gorgeous decorations are much more expensive than the fish themselves! :rolling:

We also have a Dune tank (not the movie, from the SF Channel Mini-series...far superior in my opinion). The kulie loaches are our sandworms...hee hee.

I will add some pictures up at some point...have to catch up to myself...will let you know when they are up. Do you have any jpgs you want to send me for posting? I am starting fish galleries for my readers. :music:

PS - my husband is getting into the act, and now wants to make a Matrix themed aquarium.

The possibilies are endless. Instead of Dune, for example, it could have been Tatooine. LOL.

It's awesome when you get everything just right, and yes, dingy is fun!

Hello Jilly,

I'd love to send you some pics...took some of our new betta and our little girl "Mary". If I can figure out how to go about it I will send them right to you. Our two sick fellas, the ones I started to write about in a reply I posted to the "Do you have a betta" post..(had to scoot somewhere before I could finish it)...They are doing much better now. Simon is blowing happy little bubbles again and they are both swimming around flaring at each other. They had ick (I think) and also a bit of fin rot on Simon...he also showed signs of white fuzzy stuff about the 3rd day of treatment. I have been using aquarium salt, water conditioner, Ick Clear and Betta Fix on them. Also have them both under a lamp for warmth...keeping water at about 80. (I have been reading lots about bettas the past few weeks ! I just LOVE these little guys/gals
My daughter is concerned about Simon, his gill looks funny..like one side is not lining up with the other when you look down from the top...hard to explain...I was wondering if he lost one of his gill covers or something.(read something about that somewhere) But it doesn't seem to be troubling him at all...maybe a defect or something that I didn't notice when I purchased him.
We have all of them in thier own little worlds...though for now Simon is in a small 1-1 1/2 pint bowl until he gets better..didn't have anything else to put him in where he was by himself. He was sharing the 1 gallon rectangular tank with Mary (with a divider of course) till he got sick. Thankfully she seems not to have gotten what he has though. She is happily making goo goo eyes at Luke (now Joseph...pastel blue) who is right beside her. lovers
I think I am going to like this forum...I have never joined a forum before. Thanks for providing one !!

Oooh! I got your photos! They look great. You are making nice habitats for your little fishes. I am going to post those pics up at Rate a fish and make you a gallery today. Sit tight.

Great ! Glad you got them Ok. Now...what's "rate a fish" and where can I find it ? I know I ran accross "rate a pet" once while surfing this site...but when I tried to find it again I couldn't remember where I had been... This is a new site to me but I'm betting it doesn't take me long to learn my way around.
Thanks much for posting the pics....I'll have to send you some more !
By the way...Mark and Luke are doing just fine. I am waiting the whole 7 days treatment just to be sure. They are the 2 in "sickbay"

Good on ya for doing the entire round of treatment. Since ich has a full lifecycle, and not all of it is actually on the fish, you need to treat for the part the ich spends living in the gravel as well.

I have a new article on my Fish page that describes the rate a fish and offers the link.

My daughter has informed me that I keep getting the names of our fish mixed up. Haha...since we keep changing their names I am not surprised. I think I will just call them by color until we get fixed in the name dept.

We have blue, pinkish , fruitpunch red and a white with pastel blue/green on fins..they are all male....and one little blue female.

Blue and pinkish are the sick ones...but getting better !

it's okay about the names, I do it too. When create my theme tanks, the names have to change, to go along with that...the fishies don't mind! After all, I am the Lord of the Food!

Emg, how is your Pern theme coming along? You have all these little dragonets to care for - I guess you will be busy with coming up with more anmes from pern...

For sure Jilly!

I don't have a tank available right now to start playing around with decorations...but that doesn't mean I can't contemplate and look around for suitable objects that fit a Pernese theme.

I have chosen "Lytol" for Mr Blue..my first betta. He is sort of a quiet solumn fish and he doesn't look quite as flashy as the others. His fins are all ragged from swimming through plastic plants (which I have Eliminated completely from his tank, he now has the real thing) Funny, he is the only one that has that problem with fake plants, the rest seem to do just fine. Anyway, Lytol in the books was sort of a sad fella, having lost his dragon and all, so I thought the name appropriate.

I am sticking with "F'lar" for my steel male and I think I will call my steel female "Lessa" seeing as how they are a couple.

I think I will name that beautiful PieBald..."Jaxom" or "Jax" for short...he's my FAVE! (I posted another pic of him Jilly...this one came out AWSOME!)

OOOhhhh...there are just SOO many neat and incredible names to choose from in those books. I won't be running out of any ideas for awhile I think!
