Samurai has moved on. We have battled illness with him the entire time we had him and he finally died. My two year took it the hardest since it came too close to other major changes in her life.

My husband put him out in the creek for me since I have issues with tossing pets into the trash.

When we are settled again, we will offer a home to another fish.

Xlady,

I am so sorry that your betta died. I like your idea of putting him in the creek. Much better than throwing him away. Gideon and I send our fishy hugs!!!

So sorry for your loss... How long did you have him?? It is hard, they have such engaging personalities. I lost mine not too long ago, and am about to go to 'rescue" another from a cup.... maybe two....

Xlady, I am so sad to hear your little cutie passed away. You gave him a nice home, though! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I'm glad you will be looking for a new betta to give love to and I hope your two year old will be happy to have a new fishy buddy to care for. Do you have any names in mind? I liked the name Samurai and was wondering what else you had in mind.

StampingChick,

Unwanted things go into the trash. We don't put loved ones there and I certainly am not putting any of our pets out to the road for pick up. I think Samurai deserved a decent send off.

We have had him for over a year. He was a cup rescue as well. I hadn't planned to bring home a fish...I was looking at the bird feeders and planting supplies next to them.

The Bettas looked so miserable and sickly. So I stopped to growl about the condition of the fish. And somehow I ended up with a sick Betta and not even the one I was actually reaching for.

I spent more on meds for Samurai than I did on purchasing him. I lost track of how many times people told me I was crazy and should flush him down the toilet and just get a new one. Flush him indeed, like finding another just like him would be possible.

Jilly,

Samurai was an impulse rescue from Wal-mart, though I love fish and had a small tank of several when I brought him home. I had actually decided on this beautiful red that caught my eye. I had to move Samurai's cup to reach that one. He seemed so miserable stuck in that little cup and I felt drawn to him so home he came.

I don't remember the last time I made the decision to have a pet, they choose me instead. Right now, we are still dealing with the aftermath of Katrina so I won't be offering a home to any new critters just yet.

I have spoken to my husband about having multiple tanks, both large and small and we decided to do this after we are settled again. So if you hear about some crazed Rogue zipping through Wal-mart with a cart full of Betta...I am ok, really...they all asked to come home with me, hehe.

I miss Samurai. But having seen him flow from one health issue to another prepared me for his passing, I think. I didn't expect him to live long, I only wanted to try to offer him something better in his remaining time. The name seemed right for him then and I suppose it was since he battled for life for over a year with us. May his spirit know peace in the next phase of existence for him.

Rogue, I hope you and your family are doing well in the aftermath of Katrina. Is your home okay? What happened to you?

Yeah, when you settle down I can't wait to hear your Crazed Rogue Betta Lady updates!

The five of us are living in a room of my parents' house. Since we were house hunting when the storm hit, our things were in storage and flooded.

So now we are trying to find a place to live in an area where there is a housing shortage and dealing with too many things going wrong.

I will be praying for you XLady!!!!
I hope you find something!

wow, Rogue, what a lot to deal with. Did you have renters insurance on your things, or are you dealing with a total loss?

Although you guys are cramped in one room, it's just great that you have your parent's house to stay in. Are you definately going to stay in that area? Seems like housing is a terrible issue. I guess bad timing to be house-hunting. I hope everything works out and you are in my prayers.

No, we didn't have renter's insurance. It's not a total loss since some items are salvageable and some were in my parent's home and undamaged. We will have to replace household appliances, pots and other things though.
