Hi Lawanda,

It's nice to meet you - everybody seems excited to have you back! I'm fairly new here, but I'm a homeschooling grandmother and an avid photo album scrapbooker. So we should get along great.

The albums I'm using come from a catalog company called Exposures. Do you know them? It's all scrapbook and photo support materials. Anyway, the albums I'm currently using are magnetic, but the copy in the catalog and the company reps say they're acid free and will not hurt the photos. What do you think?

I love the Exposures catalogue It does have lovely stuff in it.

My understanding is that any sort of sticky substance on the back of a photo is naturally going to harm it, because it's a glue that's holding onto the photo. So if you ever want to remove it, something is going to rip. And anything that presses down on the front of the photo is going to damage it for the same reason. So you're safest with photos that are held down to the paper by the corners, and that just have another piece of paper lightly resting on top of it (i.e. the back of the next page). That way no moisture is trapped in there, no glue or plastic is pulling the photo apart.

I guess even with all of that I don't trust photos to last eternally, and am making sure I have all the good ones scanned, because I can always back up JPG files infinitely long

I have never heard of exposures! It sounds like it is fine to me, though! If it says it is acid free, and lignin free, that is important. Because my grandma's photos all ruined in her magnetic albums. Obviously they had acid in them!

So you homeschool, too? That is so cool! I really enjoy it:)

My kids like to scrapbook with me. It covers several subjects...writing, history(family, anyway) reading and art!

Hi Lisa!

Thanks so much for coming to my forum!!

I want to mention that there is this AWESOME product called Un-Du that removes pics from any adhesive without ruining the pics!

I used it to take out all my baby pics from an old magnetic album. It is AWESOME!

Lignin? Hum ! Never heard of it, Lawanda. I'll check it out.

Here's the link for exposures. Just in case you want to go there to take a peek. Believe me, it's safe to peek at this exposure.

Go to exposuresonline.com and have fun.

Thanks for the link!! Awesome!

And lignin is what makes pictures, newspapers, etc turn yellow.

Most of the time, if it is acid free, it is also lignin free:)
