I recently purchased 2 laptops for my kids for Christmas and my personal opinion is that its not all that its cracked up to be. My daughter jumped right in and started using the laptop but my son has been nothing but frustrated.

I took his laptop and tried to maneuver through it so I could help him but I was shocked at how many changes were done in one version. Windows 8 seems to be a completely new version of Windows. Things are no longer where they used to be and I've had to do YouTube tutorials to find basic shortcuts. I think it would have been better to make changes over a few releases instead of so many changes at once.

Is anyone else using Windows 8? If so what are your thoughts?

What version did you upgrade from? There has been a lot of changes - some of the major and some have been slowly added over time.

The main annoyance of Windows 8 is the use of tiles on the home screen instead of the desktop. This was by design.

Windows 8 was developed to be used in a touchscreen or phone environment. If you were to use a touch device the tiles are acutally very useful. If you are old-school and still using a mouse then the tiles can be a real pain!

I will not deny that there is a learning curve in Windows 8 but that has been true on past versions and on many other software packages.

Hopefully you will get used to Windows 8 but anytime you have a question please feel free to post!

I was really waiting for Windows 8 because I hate Windows 7 and I was so disappointed when I realised that it was especially made for touched screens.

When my old computer died on me I wanted an Apple because I am so fed up with Windows but their nearest store is too far away and they do not ship to post office boxes so here I am stuck with Windows 7.

My first computer with an internet connection was during the time of Windows 98, I am still missing it to this day.

Anyone here have a PC but powered by something else than Windows? Is it even safe and doable?
