I am making a serious attempt to get my office clean. It has been a GIANT mess with literally over 300 books in piles everywhere and I know it affects me mentally.

I have a large set of dark wood shelves to one side which I adore, they have inlays and make me feel like a Beauty and the Beast library. So those make me very happy.

I also have a small stone fountain behind me which I love, with a spinning stone ball in it. I should post a photo or two once things get a little more clean.

What are some keys for a happy office?

For me one thing is a clean desk. When I worked my 9 to 5, I took time to clean and clear my desk every day. Now I don't, but it is *much* better than it used to be.

I have some favorite things on my desk, a glass cat, a porcelain angel and a heart-shaped glass paperweight. My desk faces an open door (feng shui) am looking for a picture or wall hanging with mountains.

I have way too many books, but am donating a lot of them to my library for our annual book sale.

In Feng Shui we say that "nothing new flows into your life until you make room for it." So move out some of those books and see what good things flow in to take their place. Donate them to your local library, give them to friends, sell or trade them to bookstores (like Powells.com), swap them at online sites, or even "forget" one at Starbucks where someone else can pick it up and enjoy it. Send your books out of your office and they will continue to enrich the universe.

At my job, my desk is cluttered but my office walls are bare. After 5 years I still feel like a visitor. I wrote as one of my goals this year to make it my office more personal. Some people have really cluttered offices and it still manages to feel homey.
