as the Classical Music editor for BellaOnline I want to find out all about the readers and 'posters' ( sounds like something stuck on a wall whose cousin Bill is always about to be prosecuted...) in this forum.

I wonder if we have the whole orchestra in this forum?
I play the tuba ( the queen of instruments!).
What do YOU play!

I play the clarinet.
Hi Renaissancewoo!

I'm Michelle Taylor, and as soon as I finish up my training, will be taking over as the editor of this site. (I'm glad to see some people are already talking over here!)

I play the piano and sing (mostly alto, can swing over into 2nd soprano if desperately needed, though.)

I play piano, organ, trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, all keyboard percussion instruments (bells, xylophone, vibraphone, chimes, etc.), flute, clarinet, French horn, trombone, oboe, bassoon, guitar, and I sing. I'm a band director. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

piano & french horn are my specialties, as well as all brass (bass & treble) I DO NOT sing <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Singing is my joy! <img src="/images/graemlins/music.gif" alt="" /> I love the piano for helping to soothe me or realease stress, but to sing is just for sheer fun . When I was young all I wanted was to sing 1st soprano, because I thought it was impressive to hit the high notes. But the more I sang, the more entranced I became with harmony, and now I hardly ever sing the melody. Even when it's just the radio playing - I'll pick out a harmony to sing. (People that don't know me well think I'm nuts!) <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I don't play classical violin, but I play old-time and Cajun fiddle, old-time and bluegrass mandolin, and Cajun and Zydeco accordion.

My in-laws are relatively well-known classical musicians, hey Michelle, maybe you could link to their sites if you like them:

Cool Megan, I'll have to check them out.

(I keep forgetting which of these forums I've checked, and which I haven't, sorry!) <img src="/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />
Ok, um, WOW!

The way you said they were "relatively well-known" was so non-chalant, that I wasn't sure what to expect.

And then at first all I saw was about their teaching methods. Then I found their bios, a little impressive I'd say! (Does your FIL still have his accent?) {{{swoons}}}

Also, was that your husband beside you in the snowstorm "Soup to Nuts" photos? Rather tall man. <img src="/images/graemlins/beamedup.gif" alt="" />

I wish I knew more about the string instruments so that I could give a personal review on their teaching books. {{{sigh}}} The only strings I know are the piano, though. But that is really cool that you have such a musical family! I am quite jealous. My mom sings, but I'm the first to officially study anything, although my son has picked up the sax quite easily and is now chomping away at the guitar. (I personally want to try my hand at the drums and guitar!)

OK, I've rambled enough. Thanks Megan!

Yeah, that's him. He's pretty well-known himself (do a search for Kevin Wimmer on allmusic.com); he was in the studio this weekend recording with Linda Ronstadt, who I got to meet yesterday (she was very sweet and humble and complimented my shirt). He also appeared in the Season 2 Finale of the HBO show Deadwood, no lines but there was a nice screen shot of him playing the fiddle. And yeah, he's a hulking giant... I'm 5'1", he's 6'4". Even in my very highest heels, the height difference is almost goofy. I usually don't even notice, but once in awhile I'll catch a glimpse of us in a mirror or store window and it's like... wow. I'm tiny.

So when I say I'm an "amateur" musician, maybe take it with a grain of salt, I'm just amateur compared to all of them; I feel like I do pretty well and I can hold my own in a jam session, but it's pretty freakin' humbling being around the Wimmers!

And yes, Harry still has his accent, but it's relatively soft... he doesn't sound like Ah-nold, but he's clearly Austrian.

I forgot to mention about how I played bass clarinet in middle school and early high school band. I was so bad that I mostly got relegated to triangle. I think not practicing (ever.) was part of the issue.
OK, New Year - who else out there plays an instrument?

Not me, I'm afraid. Although my husband is a heavy-metal guitarist[imageBellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. If you don't know how to do UBB code just post here for help - we will help out!
